Position Title: Research Assistant – Plant Breeding and Greenhouse Evaluation
Location: Mills River, NC
Time Type: Full Time
The Opportunity:
Ohalo is seeking a research assistant to join our rapidly growing team. The successful candidate will be organized and familiar with experimental design, construction of plant crosses, breeding evaluation trials, and greenhouse growing operations. The successful candidate will collaborate with our small but growing team to help continue to expand our new research greenhouse operation.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain plants of varied species and variety in a greenhouse environment
- Manage and organize seed and propagule stocks
- Assist in the crossing and growth management of plant populations
- Contribute to implementation of new breeding methods
- Maintain detailed records to assist in the generation of IP
- Collaborate with database manager to retain an active inventory of stocks
- Work collaboratively with a team of varying skill levels and expertise
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Ability to work in a greenhouse environment for prolonged periods of time
- Follow company policies and practices with all internal and external interactions
- Maintain security of company information including trade secrets
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate's degree with 2 years relevant experience
- Skilled in executing complex breeding projects
- Excellent organizational and data analysis skills
- Proficiency with Excel
- Proficiency with statistical software/languages such as R or Python is a plus
- Experience with SQL queries is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse and creative teams
- Passport and ability to travel internationally
- Ability to hold a North Carolina driver’s license and potential to be covered by a company vehicle insurance plan
