Opportunity: Ohalo Genetics is seeking a motivated Genotyping Research Associate II to join our high-throughput genotyping team.
This position will focus on executing established genotyping workflows, including using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and molecular biology techniques.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 years experience or a Master's degree with more than 1 year relevant experience.
This is a dynamic, hands-on role suited for individuals with a strong background in PCR, Illumina sequencing, and molecular biology workflows.
Working closely with other research associates and scientists, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in screening large sets of plant tissue samples and will contribute to the successful execution of our high throughput genotyping pipeline essential to Ohalo Genetics' production objectives.

Responsibilities:
- Perform DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing library preparation.
- Work with other scientists to develop and test new, customized genotyping workflows, including marker-based and whole-genome genotyping approaches.
- Communicate genotyping timelines, updates, and results with related teams.
- Carefully execute biotechnology/molecular biology protocols.
- Perform analytical assays for QC or research purposes.
- Maintain detailed lab records in an electronic notebook and ensure accurate data entry.
- Monitor equipment and minimize downtime in the genotyping pipeline.
- Supervise and support junior RAs in the team as needed.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Plant Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a similar field.
- 3 years in a relevant role (or 1 with a Master's).
- Strong skills in molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, or ddPCR.
- Proficiency in Illumina sequencing, library preparation, and QC.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with plant breeding, genetic engineering, and plant tissue culture/regeneration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- A growth mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Experience designing and optimizing complex PCR workflows.
- Advanced Illumina library preparation and sequencing knowledge.
- Experience with automated liquid handling equipment.
- Familiarity with delicate analytical instruments, such as Flow Cytometer, Nanodrop, Bioanalyzer, or Microplate Reader.
- Demonstrated process optimization and troubleshooting abilities.
- Basic supervisory experience or proven leadership skills.
- Advanced data analysis skills using R or similar tools.
- On-site (one location) Monday through Friday
- Standing 40-50% of the day
- Intensive pipetting requiring dexterity and vision
