This role is open to candidates at varying levels of experience, from junior (with 2 years experience in developing commercial maize hybrids) to senior (with 7 years experience). The breeder will be responsible for developing and selecting the best materials for Ohalo's groundbreaking Boosted BreedingTM platform and its supporting technologies.

The anticipated pay range for this role is $110,000 - $160,000 per year. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Responsibilities:
- Assess plant vigor, yield, and desirable agronomic characteristics to drive unprecedented yields using a novel breeding system
- Plan, perform, and track crosses to deliver materials for crucial milestones
- Maintain detailed and organized records of plants in the greenhouse and seed in storage
- Collaborate with greenhouse operators to ensure optimal plant health and generation time
- Work with Research Associates and Scientists to execute experiments, analyze data, and communicate results for a variety of experiments simultaneously
- Participate in scientific discussions and present research outcomes
- This role is open to candidates at varying levels of experience, from junior (with 2 years experience in developing commercial maize hybrids) to senior (with 7 years experience).
- Ability to successfully juggle multiple projects to meet intertwined deadlines
- Meticulous approach to planning with failsafes to prevent pitfalls
- Ability to accurately follow, develop, and communicate detailed plans
- Hands-on approach with a history of success
- Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and good at record keeping
- Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills
- Enthusiastic about maize breeding technology with a desire to overturn conventional breeding and production systems
- Ability to work creatively in a fast-paced, start-up company environment
- Experience selecting and evaluating inbreds and hybrids in a commercial breeding program
- Understanding of commercial maize industry practices and needs
- Strong organizational skills
- Hands-on experience with maize crossing and germplasm curation/management
- Experience managing data and using statistical analysis to drive decisions
