Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team, specializing in Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Environmental compliance, expertise in asbestos, lead, mold, and site surveys. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating environmental conditions at various sites and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves conducting site inspections, assessments, testing, data analysis, and reporting, with a focus on hazardous materials and potential contamination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs):
- Conduct comprehensive Phase 1 ESAs to identify potential environmental liabilities and assess current and historical site conditions.
- Perform research, including reviewing historical documents, maps, aerial photos, and regulatory databases, to evaluate environmental risks associated with the site.
- Interview property owners and stakeholders as part of the investigation process.
- Prepare detailed Phase 1 ESA reports that summarize findings and provide recommendations for further action.
- Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs):
- Conduct Phase 2 ESAs to identify and quantify environmental contamination through soil, groundwater, air, and building material sampling.
- Manage field investigations, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, and hazardous materials sampling.
- Analyze data and prepare Phase 2 ESA reports, outlining the extent of contamination and providing recommendations for remediation or further study.
- Asbestos, Lead, and Mold Assessments:
- Conduct inspections and surveys to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), lead-based paint, and mold contamination in buildings.
- Perform sampling and testing of materials and air quality to assess the presence and risk levels of hazardous substances.
- Prepare and review detailed reports outlining findings, safety concerns, and recommended actions for remediation.
- Site Survey & Hazardous Materials Identification:
- Conduct site surveys to assess the presence of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, mold, and other contaminants.
- Perform visual inspections, sampling, and monitoring of sites to identify hazards and assess environmental conditions.
- Provide technical guidance and regulatory compliance recommendations based on survey findings.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure all assessments, surveys, and reports comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and state environmental agencies.
- Prepare and submit compliance documentation and recommendations for remediation or corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, including field notes, sampling results, and client correspondence.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in conducting Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, with specific experience in asbestos, lead, mold, and hazardous materials surveys.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, including ASTM E1527-13 and ASTM E1903-11 for Phase 1 ESAs, and familiarity with relevant EPA and state guidelines.
- Certification in asbestos, lead, and mold assessment, or ability to obtain certification within a designated time frame (e.g., AHERA Asbestos Inspector, EPA Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor, Mold Assessment).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex environmental data and develop actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing detailed reports and interacting with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
- Additional certifications or training in environmental health and safety (EHS), hazardous materials, or remediation.
- Experience with environmental software for data management and GIS mapping.
- Previous experience working in both commercial and residential settings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Willingness to travel to multiple job sites as needed.
