What You’ll Do
The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for a Polygraph Examiner vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section. This position will report to the London, OH office. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.
Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Under administrative supervision conducts an assortment of polygraph exams ,as appropriate, in criminal matters at request of law enforcement agencies and for internal pre-employment screening. This may occur both from the London, OH office and from other offices across the State of Ohio.- Obtains case facts from investigative officials.
- Determines subjects mental & physical suitability for testing & his/her version of case facts.
- Psychologically condition subject for examination by either stimulating or reducing anxieties as necessary to produce only physiological changes required for chart interpretation.
- Formulates & reviews relevant & irrelevant control questions appropriate for case.
- Analyzes recorded physiological reactions to opinionate truth or deception.
- Conducts post-test interrogation to elicit truth from persons found to be deceptive.
- Takes statements for presentation to investigators & courts.
- Assists investigators in determining course of investigation to follow based on test results.
- Prepares written report of examination including opinion as to subject’s truthfulness or deception & any information obtained concerning offense for presentation to investigators & courts.
- Testifies in court concerning results of polygraph examinations &/or confessions or admissions obtained from the subject.
- Performs related miscellaneous lab duties.
- Maintains, repairs & calibrates instruments.
- Keeps current with improved or new techniques.
- Prepares and provides presentations to law enforcement, colleges and universities, community groups, and the general public.
- Gives lectures to community groups.
- Other special projects as assigned.
- Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the Major Worker Characteristics noted above.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
