What You’ll Do
The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for a Quality Assurance Specialist (Laboratory) vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section, London Ohio office. This position will report to the London location daily. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.
Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following
- Make quarterly site visits to audit eighteen (18) locations throughout the State using 908 devices
- Review, log, download historical data, conduct reach-back follow-up, check for supplies and consumables that need replaced, handle any Q&A while on-site
- Compile and track records, perform statistical analyses, coordinate training, schedule open houses, work on creating a monthly or quarterly newsletter for users, and handle telephone inquiries
- Serve as a liaison between the AGO, program participants and vendor
- Support the Rapid DNA program at booking stations, Sexual Assault Kit Tracking and Annual Reporting programs, the NIBIN project, Evidence Submission and Prelog programs that interfaces with OHLEG, and handle SART/SANE Interactions
- Work with new Booking Agencies seeking to implement Rapid DNA
- Annual audit of the participating booking agency to ensure compliance with FBI Standards for the Operation of Rapid DNA Booking Systems by Law Enforcement and State policy and procedures
- Monitor corrective actions from a Booking Agency as a result of an audit, if applicable
- Oversee training and certification of operators of the Rapid DNA Booking System
- Monitor compliance with the State’s procedure for unsolicited DNA notifications
- Assist with adding or changing information about Lead Operators and Operators of the Rapid DNA Booking System
- Assist the Booking Agency with troubleshooting various Rapid DNA Booking System issues
- Develop a training program for Sexual Assault Kit Tracking (PowerPoint, self-guided, and hands-on options) for the end users, hospitals, law enforcement, laboratories
- Follow-up with agencies that did not perform their step in the process correctly
- Provide training on a regular basis throughout the year to agencies or geographical areas
- Provide data summaries of the number of kits tracked, participating agencies and issues encountered
- Based on submissions to labs, reach out and train agencies that are not utilizing the tracking program
- Assist with Evidence Submission and SART/SANE training
- Field questions on Sexual Assault Kit Annual Reporting, NIBIN, Evidence Submission and Prelog programs that interfaces with OHLEG, and handle SART/SANE Interactions
- General knowledge of firearm safety and safe handling, evidence packaging and submission requirements
- Outreach/training to LEAs, BCI crime scene agents/techs to assist with DNA evidence collection from firearms at the scene
- Provide training to law enforcement in DNA swabbing of firearms/cartridge case
- Point of contact for law enforcement/CGICs for best practices and BCI lab policies concerning DNA,NIBIN, and Firearms
- Or completion of undergraduate courses in core program in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or natural sciences; valid driver’s license.
