BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Responsible for accurate and complete financial reporting of BWC, including over $20 billion in assets and a nearly $400 million annual budget, while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and State of Ohio laws and regulations
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the annual independent audit of BWC and inclusion of the agency’s audited financial statements in the State of Ohio Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
  • Lead and mentor a team of 8 financial professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, development and operational excellence
  • Offer insight through financial and operational data analysis through routine and ad hoc financial reporting
  • Develop and refine financial policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy and compliance within financial operations
  • Collaborate with agency leadership to align financial reporting with strategic objectives, providing insights to drive informed decision making

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in public or business administration, accounting, finance or related field; 42 mos. exp. or 42 mos. trg. in financial administration.
  • Or completion of graduate core program in public or business administration, accounting, finance or related field; 30 mos. exp. or 30 mos. trg. in financial administration.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Financial Program Manager, 66585.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above. NOTE: Successful completion of the Fiscal Academy may be substituted for 4 mos. of required accounting/fiscal experience referenced in this portion of the minimum qualifications.

Major Worker Characteristics

Knowledge of Agency, Division, & Department policies & procedures*; supervisory principles/techniques; employee training & development; interviewing; governmental & financial accounting; GAAP & GASB; business administration; applicable state &/or federal laws, rules, procedures& standards governing fiscal & budgetary operations*; government structure & process*; budgeting, technical writing; human & public relations.

Skill in personal computer; operation & updating BWC systems (i.e., general ledger software, CoreSuite) *, effective business communication.

Ability to deal with a large number of fiscal & budgetary variables & determine a specific course of action; gather, collate & classify information about data, people, or things; handle routine & sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials/representatives of same &/or different political jurisdiction; prepare &/or edit technical fiscal material.
