What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workers' Compensation Underwriter - 20067884 position at Ohio BWC (official)?
BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state.
What You’ll Be Doing
Required Experience and/or Education:
2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. as underwriter for insurance organization or for agency comparable to Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
Major Worker Characteristics
Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, policies & procedures regarding risk administration*; insurance & risk management, accounting or business administration; manual classifications; loss control; English grammar; oral & written business communication; public relations. Skill in use of video display terminal or personal computer*. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; read & understand technical reference manuals; write meaningful, accurate & concise reports; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; respond to sensitive inquiries from & contacts with employers & public.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Analyze and process state fund and self-insured Professional Employer Organizations (PEO) and Alternate Employer Organizations (AEO) transactions
- Facilitate, analyze, and process Partial Transfer transactions
- Review and proficiently answer internal/external inquiries from PEO/AEO customers, TPAs, and BWC staff via email box and telephone
- Provide support to the unit’s Underwriting Consultants on daily tasks and team projects
- Assist in PEO audit review functions
Required Experience and/or Education:
2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. as underwriter for insurance organization or for agency comparable to Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
- Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in business, insurance & risk management, accounting, mathematical sciences or related field of study.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
