What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chimney Sweep Apprentice position at Ohio Chimney Co?
As we look forward to our spring/summer repair season and eventual transition into our fall sweep season, Ohio Chimney Co is looking to add a few more members to our repair and inspection crews. We've been a family owned business since 1981, and the current owner is a third generation mason and certified chimney sweep! We are looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our team and provide excellent service to our amazing customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking direction from their crew leader and executing the daily needed tasks at their assigned repair job. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail. We would prefer a candidate who has a background in some type of trade, but those who are willing and able to learn new things can thrive in this position also. The candidate must be receptive to constructive feedback and be coachable, as this industry is highly specialized and requires specific terminology, knowledge, and execution in the field. Above all, you must have a great work ethic and sense of humor. We love to have a good time while getting our work done.
Potential responsibilities:
- Repair, rebuild, and demolition of chimneys
- Adherence to company SOP's, guidelines, and regulations to complete a variety of jobs
- Ability to follow and complete OJT with defined goalposts
- Willingness to learn a variety of tasks from teardowns, rebuilds, liner installs, minor and major masonry repairs, full rip and replace, unit install in a variety of fuels (wood, gas, pellet, propane, electric, etc.), and more.
- Scaffold building and tear down
- Roofing and flashing
- Learning how to successfully perform chimney inspections and sweeps and estimate potential repair jobs to customers.
- Continuous learning opportunities including the opportunity to become certified
- Advise customers on the safety of chimneys, appliances and flues
- Willingness to wear many hats and learn more about this specialized industry
- Any other duties as assigned by management!
Relevant previous experience includes, but is not limited to: (desired, but not required)
- Experience in a trades/blue collar environment
- Experience in sales
- Experience in masonry
- Leadership experience
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (preferred)
- Valid Driver's License (*required)
- Good Verbal Communication
- Good Physical Health able to lift minimum of 80lbs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
