Custodian Job Description
This position is for a custodian at Fordsville Elementary.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the school, including performing routine custodial activities, operating and maintaining cleaning equipment, and participating in grounds care tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine custodial activities, such as cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, dusting furniture and window sills, and collecting trash.
- Operate and maintain powered cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbing machines and pressure washers.
- Use and maintain non-powered cleaning equipment, such as mops, brooms, and cleaning cloths.
- Participate in grounds care tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, watering, fertilizing, reseeding, applying fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and sterilants.
- Provide manual labor for various tasks, such as moving furniture and equipment, setting up tables and chairs, and loading and unloading trucks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Previous experience as a custodian is desired, but not essential.
- Ability to meet health requirements specified in district personnel policy.
- Physical ability to perform heavy labor and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others and follow oral and written directions.
