Office of Legal & Acquisition Services
The Office of Legal and Acquisition Services manages the agency’s legal affairs, contractual agreements, and acquisition of good and services. The attorneys in our office serve as legal counsel for ODJFS. Our mission is to provide quality and timely legal advice to ODJFS and perform research and analysis for the program and policy areas of the agency. Our office also administers the hearings and rule promulgation functions for the agency.
What You’ll Do
Under administrative direction, performs non-routine administrative tasks (i.e., independently formulates decisions and/or judgments involving non-legal interpretation of policies and procedures to resolve problems, prepare correspondence and reports and/or carry out other assignments) in support of the Bureau of State Hearings Prehearing Resolution (PHR) process; independently reviews eligibility status and benefits; reviews hardcopy information and computer system information (e.g., Hearing and Appeals Tracking System [HATS X]; Ohio Benefits) in preparation for discussions with appellants, appellant representatives and county agency staff; communicates by phone, in person or in writing with appellants, appellant representatives and county agency staff to resolve discrepancies in program eligibility/benefits to reduce the need for cases to go to hearing; documents appeal withdrawal attempts and completions in HATS X; provides technical assistance to county agency staff utilizing various methods (e.g., webinar; manuals; desk aids).
Operates personal computer and applicable software applications to produce, store, calculate and retrieve reports, confidential files, and other documents; maintains accurate and timely electronic case records; handles sensitive inquiries; provides front desk phone coverage.
Performs other related duties as assigned (e.g., travels to attend staff meetings, training sessions, workshops and conferences; maintains logs, records and files).
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; flexible scheduling available.
Travel: Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid drivers license.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 30. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $24.66 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.

- Completion of associate core coursework in secretarial science or business office applications from accredited career school or community college;
- 12 mos. exp. in secretarial/administrative professional field.
- 30 mos. exp. or 30 mos. trg. in secretarial/administrative professional field.
- 12 mos. exp. as Administrative Professional 2, 16872.
- Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
