As Ohio EPA’s environmental specialist, you’ll complete ground water contaminant delineations and modeling in support of the Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) Program’s assessments of public water systems. You’ll determine site accessibility, proximity to known contaminant sources, and conduct site visits as needed. You’ll help develop protection strategies in support of SWAP, and review SWAP protection plans to promote effective implementation in the state.
You’ll provide geologic and hydrogeologic evaluation of wastewater sites to determine the potential for ground water contamination, review monitoring data, and provide assessment of whether a discharge of dredged or fill material to surface water could affect sources of municipal drinking water. You’ll conduct special investigations of known or potential ground water contaminations, including the sampling of public, private, and monitoring wells.
Additionally, you’ll conduct ambient groundwater monitoring activities throughout the district to define water quality baseline conditions, trends in water quality, pollution effects upon area aquifers, and identify potential sources of contamination. You’ll assist in the development of various agency policies and procedures relating to the SWAP program, as well as provide technical assistance of a hydrogeologic nature to local officials, and public water system owners and operators.

- Or positions involved in providing financial, technical & administrative assistance for planning, design & implementation of environmental infrastructure & pollution abatement, & prevention projects, applicants must have completed undergraduate core coursework in business/public administration, public relations/marketing, political science or communications, or have 4 yrs. exp. in position involving public contact to explain policies, procedures & programs of agency, writing of promotional &/or explanatory publications & materials, budgeting, contract administration & working with others on team projects. Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation.
