Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Job Functions:
- Cordially welcomes and receives patients and visitors upon arrival.
- Instruct patient regarding completion of forms.
- Records patient arrival on schedule while keeping appointments on schedule.
- Verify insurance, scan/copy insurance card, collect co-pay, provide receipt if necessary, and verify photo ID
- Enter updated patient demographic information
- At end of day, balance money, receipts and fee sheets
- Check reminder call report and follow up according to the protocol
- Scroll schedule for daily changes
- Practice appropriate charting methods
- Assist with resolving patient issues
- Will work with EMR (electronic medical records) to enter kiosk form and begin patient visit, and any other EMR duties assigned.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Call and/or send no show/cancellation letter to patient and/or primary care or referring physician.
- Assist co-workers with work, including working the dashboard reports in AthenaNet, recalls, medical records, assist with answering operator phone line, etc.
- Maintain proper functioning of office equipment
- Maintain updated magazines in lobby and exam rooms
- Disperse and send interoffice mail
- Open , dispense, and send all united states postal mail
- Maintains confidentiality of patient’s personal and financial information utilizing HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
- Attends all office meetings or in-service as required.
- Any other tasks as requested by the physician, practice manager, human resource manager and/or the office supervisor2
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to communicate with diversified levels of patients, staff members, external providers and/or agencies.
- Ability to organize work material and/or charts to ensure accuracy of patient records
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communications, office systems, and record keeping
- Knowledge of modern business communication, including style and format of letters, memoranda, minutes, and reports
- Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages, including internet experience.
- Skill to use a multi-line telephone system.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with little supervision
- Ability to handle and resolve problems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding health and financial information.
- Neat appearance, professional demeanor and pleasant voice.
- Fluent in English
Credentials and Experience:
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Prefer 2 years’ experience working in a medical environment.
Special Requirements:
- Willingness to learn new tasks, be cross-trained within office, and be flexible with work load to help office flow, including assisting co-workers.
- Flexibility in working hours; willing to work occasional overtime.
Physical Demands:
- Applies the principles of body mechanics in lifting or moving charts, boxes, or equipment (occasional).
- Must be able to independently lift 25 pounds (occasional)
- Physical ability to retrieve and file records in a (6 to 7 shelf) file cabinet (frequent).
- Must be able to sit (frequent), stand (frequent), walk (frequent), stoop (frequent), bend over (frequent), and type on keyboard (frequent).
- Ability to communicate in person and by phone
Work Environment
- Medical office requiring some contact with adult patients.
Hours:
7:30AM-4:00PM Monday-Friday
