Scope of responsibilities and accountability:
- Works directly with DON
- Accountable for the management and coordination of nursing services in partnership with the Charge Nurse of the endoscopy center.
- Practices within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and approved center policies and procedures.
- Responsible Charge Nurse Supervision and training, reporting concerns to Director of Nursing.
- Oversees all the center facilities, supply and equipment needs.
- Ensures center efficiency by daily/monthly monitoring staffing needs, schedules, and patient load.
Major activities and essential job functions1:
- Assure the provision of all day-to-day endoscopy activities by overseeing staffing needs.
- Direct, supervise and evaluate staff in patient care activities of the center.
- Support and promote patient/family centered care by ensuring patients and their families are active partners of the health care team.
- Ensure AAAHC accreditation standards, CMS regulations and all other designated standards of nursing practice are maintained within the center.
- Implement updated policies as directed by the Director of Nursing.
- Verify compliance of staff to infection control and universal precaution standards.
- Ensure facility checklists are completed and medical supplies are within date.
- Maintain medications for center supply, crash cart supply, and anesthesia carts.
- Ensures all monthly, quarterly, and yearly maintenance checks on equipment is complete, maintains logs.
- Assists Director of Nursing with onsite surveys.
- Work with Charge nurse on center patient case load, arranging pt load as needed for center efficiency.
- Responsible for monthly staff schedules, PTO requests input into Payroll, punch error corrections for staff.
- Oversee weekly assignment schedules, arranging staff to locations as needed, minimizing OT.
- Provides on-going validation of competency of all staff members as well as overseeing new clinical staff orientation.
- Obtain center Charge nurse feedback to complete annual evaluations and yearly competencies for staff.
- Participate in center committees, assists and supports C.Q.I. program by overseeing that quarterly audits and statistics is being completed.
- Investigate and write occurrence reports or patient complaints; initiates intervention to attain optimum patient care and satisfaction.
- Organize and participate in center CQI meetings at least quarterly.
- Participates in ongoing quality studies, provides data as needed to Quality RN.
- Participate in Center Leadership meetings.
- Provide input to DON on development and goals for centers.
- Encourages professional growth of center personnel; promote development of relevant department in services; communicates effectively with all members of the health team.
- Meet on a regular basis with the Charge Nurses for training and development.
- Provide regular staff meetings/huddles to ensure consistency within the corporation.
- Acts as a liaison and resource to center staff.
- Maintains patients’ rights of privacy and confidentiality.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current license to practice in the State of Ohio
- Minimum of three years recent and relevant clinical experience
- Responsible for maintaining current ACLS & BLS certification
- Baccalaureate and management experience preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal relation skills
- Knowledgeable in gastroenterological nursing and ambulatory care – assists with accreditation, licensure, and Medicare standards and requirements
Regulatory Requirements/Risks/Exposures
- Works with chemicals including, but not limited to, chlorine bleach, glutaraldehyde and fomalin
- Physical demand requirements meet those defined as HEAVY work, exerting 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 – 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 1 – 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
