Overview: The Architectural Product Specialist estimates projects, performs material take-offs from plans and specifications, and identifies bid scope. This position also establishes and maintains customer relationships and has pricing authority in conjunction with these responsibilities. The role requires a detail-oriented, proactive individual who can navigate architectural drawings, communicate effectively with internal teams and customers, and contribute to achieving company goals.

Work Environment: This position is based in an office setting. The role involves extensive desk work, such as reviewing architectural drawings, working with estimation software, and communicating with customers and internal teams. Employees will need to be able to take stairs to move between office areas and meet with colleagues in different departments. The work environment is collaborative, requiring strong communication and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review specifications, structural, and architectural drawings to obtain a correct scope of work.

  • Navigate, interpret, and review architectural drawings related to metal products, ensuring accurate material take-offs.

  • Download drawings and specifications (e.g., from customer FTP sites), organize, and combine single .pdf drawings into folders for easy access and printing.

  • Build and maintain relationships with customers through clear, consistent, and professional communication.

  • Seek feedback on quotes from customers to understand the disposition of quotes and gain insights into the scope of work and pricing.

  • Recommend appropriate grating products based on specific customer needs and project requirements.

  • Communicate regularly with internal teams (e.g., Sales, Project Management, Detailing) regarding customer information, market conditions, and competitor activities.

  • Prepare and send qualified proposals per bid documents and scope of work.

  • Determine quantities and costs for individual projects and identify any buyout items, requesting them from source vendors.

  • Determine the scrap factor for all products to ensure accurate costing.

  • Review and interpret revisions to drawings and specifications to ensure take-offs are updated accordingly.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with company operating, safety, environmental, engineering, and quality policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • This position primarily involves sitting at a desk for extended periods while reviewing drawings, estimating projects, and preparing proposals.

  • The ability to take stairs is required to move between office areas and collaborate with team members across departments.

  • The role may involve occasional light physical activity, such as organizing materials or moving small items within the office space.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in drafting and estimating or 1-3 years of sales experience is preferred. Experience with miscellaneous metals is a plus, and drafting experience is beneficial.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word), Microsoft Teams, and Epicor ERP system is required.

  • Personal Traits: Excellent customer service and communication skills, strong interpersonal and team-building abilities, and outstanding organizational and planning capabilities. Ability to multitask, follow up with a sense of urgency, and maintain a positive attitude.
