What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator I - Alum position at Ohio Gratings, Inc.?
The Welder is responsible for fabricating metal grating using proper materials to the correct dimensions, tolerances, and specifications as defined on the job traveler and drawings. Work is reviewed by the supervisor to ensure quality and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all Welder I duties, including interpreting basic drawings and performing simple fabrications such as straight cuts, banding, application of nosing and toe plates per drawings, and installation of anchor blocks. OR set up and weld all configurations of HD hand-welded grating.
- Meet Quality and Productivity expectations, adhering to the certification guidelines on product lines by quality standards to weld on these lines. Ongoing training with the Quality and Weld Trainer is required.
- Responsible for the layout, assembly, and fabrication of various grating product lines by identifying material and spacing requirements as defined by the job order and drawings.
- Operate in a self-directed environment with limited supervision.
- Safely operate overhead and jib cranes to assist in moving and placing grating panels.
- Safely operate various power tools, including but not limited to power saws, presses, grinders, cutting torches, band saws, cold saws, table saws, routers, and welders.
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, time sheets, and ERP transactions (using EPICOR) to manage inventory and account for production time.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Troubleshoot and assist with welding and fabrication questions in the business units as required.
- Move to various production lines as needed.
- Communicate effectively and work well with the team.
- Keep personal and common work areas clean and organized, following good workstation housekeeping practices.
- Follow all safety rules and guidelines.
- Train new associates as required.
- Engage in cross-training in different areas within the organization to gain a deeper understanding of the Ohio Gratings product line and advance your career. This may include learning new skills such as welding or material handling if instructed by management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience and knowledge in MIG and Stick Welding, Oxy/Fuel torch, Plasma torch on Carbon, Stainless Steel, and/or Aluminum; AWS D1.1, D1.5, and/or D1.2.
- Certification in out-of-position welding.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend blueprint drawings.
- Proficient in the use and safe operation of various hand and power tools.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding both metric and standard tape measures.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide by 10s and 100s without a calculator.
- Ability to perform mathematical operations with whole numbers and fractions in both standard and metric units of measure.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Preferred: 2-4 years of fabrication training and/or experience, 2-4 years of experience with Steel, Stainless Steel, or Aluminum manufacturing, and 1-2 years of experience with overhead cranes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull grating material of various sizes and weights for long periods.
- Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee, or lifting/moving equipment.
- Ability to take stairs, work around constantly moving machinery, and be exposed to weather elements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regularly works on the production floor with exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, and machine/tool hazards requiring adherence to safety rules and standards.
- Requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
