SUMMARY: The Material Handler I is responsible for receiving, inspecting, unloading, and storing raw and finished goods material within the Business Unit. This role involves safely moving materials, properly stacking grating panels, loading transportation trucks following overhead loading guidelines, and ensuring clean and presentable material yards. The Material Handler I will use Epicor to accurately transact material movement and complete daily inspection sheets. The role requires attending safety training, training new hires on forklifts and overhead cranes, and setting a strong example of OGI's safety culture by following all guidelines. Work is fast-paced, requiring independence, diligence, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Performance is reviewed by a supervisor or senior worker to ensure quality and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Material Handling and Storage:
- Receive, inspect, and unload deliveries of all supplies and raw materials.
- Organize and maintain raw materials, processed bars, racks, panels, and other inventory items.
- Stage material as needed in work centers and place finished material in proper inventory locations.
- Replenish stock materials throughout the workday as needed.
- Use Epicor to properly transact material movement.

Loading and Shipping:
- Operate industrial lift trucks and crane hoists to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Follow proper grating panel stacking procedures and ensure correct loading of transportation trucks in accordance with overhead loading guidelines.
- Report any equipment maintenance issues promptly and complete daily inspection sheets.

Safety and Training:
- Attend safety training sessions and adhere to all safety guidelines.
- Train new hires on the safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Model and uphold OGI’s safety culture, setting an example for others by following all safety protocols and guidelines.

Maintenance and Cleanliness:
- Keep personal and common work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Ensure that material yards are clean and presentable.
- Dispose of scrap materials as necessary.

Quality and Reporting:
- Meet or exceed quality production guidelines and recognize/report quality issues to operators, line leads, or supervisors.
- Assist with periodic cycle counts and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Communication:
- Effectively communicate with team members and other departments as needed.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 months of demonstrated material handling experience with forklifts and/or overhead cranes. Preferred: 1 years of experience with a steel or aluminum manufacturer and 1 years with overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Skills:
- Ability to read and understand both metric and standard tape measures.
- Perform basic arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) without a calculator.
- Use hand and power tools safely.
- Communicate effectively with team members and follow documented instructions and procedures.
- Proficiency in using Epicor for material transactions is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will engage in repetitive movement tasks, which require standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling grating material of various sizes and weights for extended periods. Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques, assistance from another employee, or available equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will regularly work on the production floor, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold is common. The environment involves machine and tool hazards, requiring strict adherence to safety rules and standards.
