We are seeking an experienced Slitter Operator to lead and direct a crew in the safe handling, setup, and operation of our Cut-To-Length & Coil Processing Line Slitter. This large-scale metal slitter is used to cut large coils into precise strip widths. The operator ensures that all operating procedures are followed to produce high-quality materials while maintaining production levels. Work is reviewed by a supervisor to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate and communicate material requirements with assistant operators, supervisors, inventory control personnel, and production coordinators to meet daily production goals.

Work collaboratively with team members, including smooth shift transitions.

Load and unload metal coils onto the slitting machine using a 50,000-pound tow motor and/or 30-ton overhead crane.

Set up and operate the slitting machine to cut metal coils into specified strip widths.

Select, clean, and install spacers and knives on arbors.

Change slitter knives, spacers, and stripper rings as needed.

Notify supervision when knives need grinding.

Clean, inspect, and store knives, spacers, and stripper rings as required.

Ensure slitting accuracy while minimizing material waste.

Understand and work with various metal materials, recognizing their unique characteristics.

Review daily job travelers to optimize cutting efficiency.

Set up exit hold-down rolls.
-
Band/weld coils on the reel, coil car, or turnstile as needed.

Remove pup coils or unfinished coils as required.

Inspect materials for visual defects and report issues immediately.

Complete necessary paperwork and time sheets accurately for inventory and job cost tracking.

Examine finished workpieces for defects such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces accordingly.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Follow all safety protocols and report any quality concerns to the line lead or supervisor.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED SKILLS:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating a metal slitter.

Proficient in operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and various hand and power tools safely.

Ability to read and understand both standard and metric measurements.

Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide by 10s and 100s without a calculator.

Preferred experience with MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to follow written instructions and procedures effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull metal materials of various sizes and weights for extended periods.

Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques or assisted lifting equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed on the production floor, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold.

Work involves machine and tool hazards that require adherence to safety rules and protocols.
