OMEC IMAGE Bilingual Instructional Assistant
Reports to: Ohio Migrant Education Program Director and Supervising Teacher
Job Objective:
Provide additional support for the IMAGE teacher in specialized instruction for the purpose/s of developing the student’s ability to effectively perform courses of study and acquire the English language.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid State of Ohio Paraprofessional License.
- Meets mandated state/federal criteria (i.e., completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses or acceptable score on an authorized professional standards test).
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish both orally and in writing.
- Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
- Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
Note: Employees must obtain training and maintain skills to fulfill compliance requirements applicable to the position as required by board policy and state/federal law.
Essential Functions:
1. Complete the following responsibilities:
- Arrives on time prepared to work. Complies with established work schedules.
- Drives to family’s residence (home, shelter, migrant camp, etc.) to deliver instructional services to migrant students eligible for the Title I-C migrant program.
- Assists IMAGE teacher in providing instruction to students using the tools and materials provided by the Ohio Migrant Education Center at the annual summer IMAGE training.
- Aids IMAGE teacher in developing lesson plans that utilize a broad range of differentiated instructional techniques and strategies, addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed expected targets, and allow English learners to meaningfully access appropriate instructional programs.
- Aids IMAGE teacher in administering academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student’s progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
- Aids IMAGE teacher in maintaining complete and accurate student records, including evidence of academic growth and progress. Uses electronic data systems like the Migrant Student Information eXchange (MSIX) to access student’s demographic and course history information.
- Aids the IMAGE teacher in providing a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
- Attends the required in-person summer IMAGE training.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Protects program property. Takes precautions to prevent the loss of equipment and supplies.
- Takes action to address harassment and/or aggressive behavior. Complies with all legal statutes when dealing with discrimination, inappropriate behavior, or suspected child abuse/neglect.
- Upholds high standards for proper conduct. Implements effective pupil management procedures. Uses positive behavioral support techniques to address disruptive student behavior.
6. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
