Job Summary : Overnight Hosts play an important role in helping the University attain its enrollment goals. This role will be responsible for providing the visiting prospective students with greater insight into what it is like to be a Polar Bear. All overnight guests are accepted high school seniors interested in experiencing campus life often before making their final decision on where to enroll. Principal Responsibilities
- Campus Tours – Show the guest around campus and share your experience at ONU, weather permitting. Consider emphasizing things that you wish you had known prior to enrolling at ONU and highlight any positive stories from your time on campus. In some instances, this may be the prospective student’s first visit to campus.
- Classes – The Office of Admissions will provide a schedule to the host indicating the classes for the guest to attend. The guest will either accompany the host to their classes or the Office of Admissions will coordinate additional personnel to accompany the overnight guest. If your schedule permits, please escort the prospective student to their classes.
- Cultivate Relationships with Students – Reach out to the prospective student prior to their visit to establish commonalities, interests, and summarize items to pack for overnight.
- Entertainment & Hosting – Escort the student to any and all meals, with the exception of any scheduling conflicts. The Office of Admissions will provide meal tickets to the guest and student if needed. It is encouraged to attend campus events and engage with other students on campus related to the guests interests and passions.
- Guest Arrival – Greet the student upon arrival for overnight visit. Details will be communicated to you as times and location may vary.
- Host Evaluation – Complete host evaluation and turn into the Office of Admissions upon completion of overnight visit.

Please Read Carefully : Overnight Hosts are contacted on an “as-needed basis” when overnights are requested through the Office of Admissions. There is no guarantee of hours or a set schedule as dependent upon visit requests. Overnight Hosts are compensated for all tasks considered work such as walking prospective students to and from classes, attending a school sanctioned event, meals, attending the same class as guests, etc. Overnight visits take place Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights, allowing for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday classes.
If your schedule does not permit the availability to accompany the prospective students during the requested visit times, the Office of Admissions will work in collaboration with your schedule to accommodate. We understand that as a student your schedule may differ from day to day and not allow you to be with the guest for the entire visit. The Office of Admissions will arrange for someone to guide the visiting prospective students in these instances. Your success as a student comes before any overnight visit!
