Job Summary:
The International Student Greeter (ISG) assists international students during their orientation. The position is active from Wednesday, August 13, 2025 to Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Principal Responsibilities
- Attend the ISG training day on Wednesday, August 13, 2025
- Participate in airport pickups and welcome students upon arrival
- Assist international students in an effective and efficient manner
- Answer students questions and needs in a timely manner
- Bring students’ needs to the attention of the International Services Coordinator and follow through on instructions
- Follow all International Services policies and guidelines during international student orientation
- Come to work as scheduled and remain flexible depending on the day’s needs (no more than 40 hours per week for the Sunday to Saturday work week)
- Collaborate with any other ISGs to create fun, interactive programs
- Participate fully in assigned orientation’s sessions and social activities
- Give your full attention to the international students during work hours, getting to know them and guiding them through orientation
- Act as a guide and resource on any excursions during orientation
- Assist with filling out important forms and documents
- Create and/or present an orientation session, such as “Life as a student”
- Help students get from place to place and ensure they are on time to all sessions
- As needed, act as a driver for off-campus excursions
- Participate in any other orientation activities, as assigned
Required Skills:
- Possesses high energy and the stamina to work long hours for days in a row
- Possesses high people skills and the stamina to be with many different kinds of people in groups for days in a row
- High capacity for empathy, compassion, and care
- Ability to communicate effectively with students for whom English is a second language and with students who speak English with a non-American accent
- Ability to handle private and confidential material and information
- Can multitask and shift quickly from one task to another
- Is resourceful and can make independent decisions based on ONU guidelines and common sense
- Previous multicultural and/or international experience is an asset
- The ability to lift heavy objects is an asset
- Holds a driver’s license and is willing to become an ONU approved driver (not required, but definitely an asset)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as an ONU student
- Be in good academic standing
- Must be able to arrive early to campus for Wednesday, August 13, 2025
- Cannot be an Orientation Leader for Welcome Weekend 2025, which is for domestic freshmen and transfer students
