Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Clerk to join our team at our steel processing plant. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our workforce, including hourly and salaried employees working in production, maintenance, and administration. The ideal candidate must be proficient in payroll systems, timekeeping, and compliance with labor laws, especially concerning shift work, and overtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process payroll transactions, including calculating wages, shift differentials, overtime, and deductions.
- Accurately track employee hours, including those working rotating shifts and overtime.
- Maintain and update payroll records, including tax withholdings, benefits, and bonuses.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company payroll policies, including labor laws for industrial workers.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and address employee payroll concerns promptly.
- Prepare payroll reports for management, finance, and auditing purposes.
- Work closely with HR and plant supervisors to ensure accurate timekeeping and employee classification.
- Stay updated on payroll laws, tax regulations, and industry-specific labor policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred).
- Prior experience as a payroll clerk, payroll assistant, or similar role in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Proficiency in payroll software Paylocity and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong numerical and data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Understanding of shift differentials, overtime calculations, and union payroll (if applicable).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive employee information with confidentiality.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Work Environment:
- Office setting within a steel processing plant, with interaction with production and administrative staff.
- Standard business hours with flexibility to accommodate payroll deadlines, including occasional overtime. (part time)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
