Description
Assist the Shift Operating Engineer in the supervision and operation of centrally controlled generating units consisting of boilers, turbines, generators, transformers, pumps, condensers and related emissions control (FGD system & AOD system) equipment, auxiliary and accessory equipment; assure the safe and continuous, efficient and economical operation on a shift basis.

Key Responsibilities
Operate a centrally controlled generating unit consisting of boilers, turbines, generators, transformers, pumps, condensers, emissions control equipment, including FGD and AOD systems, and related auxiliary and accessory equipment.Personally commit to following safe work practices and instruct those under his / her supervision to follow safe work practices.Develop efficient work practices that lead to improved unit / company reliability and costs.Perform necessary training and development, as directed, to improve the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness in meeting established goals and objectives.Supervise, train, coach, and direct employees in the normal and emergency operation of generating units and associated equipment; provide consistent feedback on performance and expectations. Assure the units are operated in a safe, efficient manner consistent with Descriptive Articles, Operating Guides, Operating Procedures, equipment manuals, good operating practices, and other industry standards.Verify job performance of direct reports through Field Observations and provide timely coaching, utilizing the OVEC Coaching Model.Prepare clearance permits for plant operating equipment.Work with the Shift Operating Engineer and with System Operations Coordinator in placing equipment into service or removing equipment from service. Coordinate equipment outage requests with System Operations Coordinator.Provide recommendations for the repair and / or replacement of critical components to reduce plant EFOR, improve availability and maintain environmental compliance.At the start of an assigned shift, become acquainted with newly issued instructions, plant operating conditions, load schedules and related matters; assure that all assisting personnel concerned are advised.Perform a daily patrol of his / her assigned area (i.e., boiler, turbine, and associated equipment or FGD and associated equipment) to observe equipment operation and condition. Take corrective measures when deficiencies are discovered.Become acquainted, at the start of an assigned shift, with newly issued instructions, plant operating conditions, load schedules and related matters; assure that all assisting personnel concerned are advised.Patrol areas of assigned area(s) and equipment to observe equipment operation and condition. Take corrective measures when deficiencies are discovered.Oversee the performance of turbines, generators, transformers, emissions controls, and other auxiliary equipment according to plant and system conditions.Prepare and maintain records and reports; supervise the preparation and maintenance of records and reports; log activities on and about assigned areas.Assume the duties of the Shift Operating Engineer as assigned.Investigate causes of complaint and assist when necessary.Provide assistance to the EO with the investigation of equipment issue when needed.Actively support and encourage the Continuous Improvement process. Promote team buy-in and support team members with their ideas.Keep informed of the latest practices and procedures with regard to the development of plant equipment, its design and operation and consistently apply these to insure efficiency and economy in the operation of the department.Administer prescribed Company personnel policies and practices; make recommendations pertaining to hiring, classification, change of classification, rate change and discipline of department employees; carry out appropriate measures of corrective discipline with employees under his / her supervision.Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.Carry out within the assigned area of responsibility the Company's program of Equal Employment Opportunity including its Affirmative Action obligations.Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.Minimum Qualifications
Appropriate leadership and technical experience satisfactory to Company needs.State of Ohio Stationary Engineer's License (3rd class or better) preferred.Four years of Operations experience preferred.The criteria listed below describes the minimum technical qualifications required for the internal employee advancement to the Operating Supervisor (OS) classifications.
Completion of all requirements for the Equipment Operator (EO) job classification, including all practical demonstrations and knowledge assessments.State of Ohio Stationary Engineer's License (3rd class or better).For employees with less than (5) years operations experience, completion of the following coursework or equivalent technical knowledge.Boiler Basic
Boiler Chemistry for Operations.TurbineAchieve a passing score (typically, 80%) on a closed-book, verbal assessment for Unit and JBR start-up activates.Completion of (500) hours of step-up to the OS classification.Benefits
