Perform skilled and routine work involved in carrying out assignments of an analytical, technical or statistical nature pertaining to the operation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relaying, measurements, communications, computers, and other equipment that is the responsibility of the Electrical Operations Department at the Company’s generating, switching, microwave, and other stations.
Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC / IKEC.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate routine and specialized test equipment necessary for relay, measurements, communications, and computer maintenance. Use computers in conjunction with test equipment to facilitate control, configuration, and data recording.
- Install, calibrate, adjust, and test equipment such as digital and electromechanical relays, panel and watt-hour meters, transducers, digital fault recorders, remote terminal units, unit voltage regulators, and modems; install and test cables and wiring associated with this equipment; ratio and polarity check current transformers; install computer network hardware and data communications circuits; document and report changes necessary to insure accurate information is available for future reference by others.
- Make revisions to equipment and wiring as directed and document and report changes necessary to insure accurate information is available for future reference by others.
- Troubleshooting skills necessary to analyze and correct equipment and circuit problems such as equipment failures, grounds, blown fuses, shorts and opens, and make repairs or replacements as necessary. Print reading skills and familiarity with equipment operation is required.
- Perform switching necessary to isolate high voltage equipment and a clear understanding of the Clearance Permit System.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections and take routine readings as directed, record such activities, and report unusual readings or maintenance problems. Routine maintenance and inspection shall include but is not limited to switchyard HV equipment, relay protection equipment, panel and watt-hour meters, RTUs, microwave communications equipment, telephone equipment, power supplies, batteries, and emergency generators.
- Perform fiber optic and computer network circuit installations including splicing, connection terminations, and testing.
- Inspect shipments and parts to determine completeness against orders; maintain adequate supply of needed parts and take inventory, as directed.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and vehicles used in work and maintain tools and vehicles in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Ability to work with others and assist employees of equal or higher classification. Instruct and direct work of employees assigned to assist.
- Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
- Perform similar or less skilled work.
- Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.
- Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.
