ENT Audiology Assistant / Allergy Technician (Full-Time)

The Audiology Assistant / Allergy Technician assists the Audiologist and the Allergy department in whatever manner is legal and appropriate to make them more efficient and more productive. These services include, but are not limited to, providing supervised basic diagnostic services, giving patients follow-up hearing aid care, and assisting with various clerical and administrative tasks. The OVMG ENT Audiology Assistant / Allergy Technician performs allergy testing using Skin Endpoint Titratin (SET), prepares extract for immunotherapy and administers immunotherapy under the supervision of the physician. The OVMG ENT Audiology Assistant / Allergy Technician must be flexible and have a willingness to adapt to change. The OVMG ENT Audiology Assistant / Allergy Technician reports directly to the ENT Office Manager and the ENT Physician.
AUDIOLOGY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs basic diagnostic hearing evaluations on patients once formal training is completed. These services are only to be provided under the direct and onsite supervision of the ordering physician or in the case of non-Medicare patients, under supervision of the onsite Audiologist.
  • After a patient is established with Audiologist, may see hearing aid patients directly for hearing aid problems and maintenance.
  • Perform, clean, and checks on hearing aids, change tubing, and perform basic repairs of hearing aids, counselling the patient on care and use of their devices.
  • Handle various clerical and scheduling responsibilities, including:
    • Maintenance of office and test equipment,
    • Scheduling of patient appointments,
    • Reviewing schedules and as necessary rescheduling patients on the Audiologist’s schedule to ensure an efficient clinic,
    • Cleaning of multi-patient use audiological supplies and devices,
  • Daily disinfection of booth, chairs, transducers, etc.,
  • Ordering of audiological supplies for test rooms,
  • Daily monitoring of voicemail.
  • Required to document their various clinical activities such as updating and transferring demographic and audiological data into electronic medical record and/or handwriting notes in a patient’s hearing aid chart after each contact.
  • Help maintain hearing aid productivity by transitioning patients directly into product discussions with an Audiologist when hearing testing shows the possibility of improved communication through amplification. If the patient cannot stay for a product discussion at the same time of testing, the Audiology Assistant will schedule a product discussion with an Audiologist for a later date convenient for the patient.
  • Notify Audiologist of any problems with patient care, equipment or supplies in the clinic.
  • Follows all medical laws, guidelines, regulations, and standards.
  • Helps public and private organizations improve accessibility.
  • Efficiently and professionally answer physician, patient, and family calls regarding testing and treatments.
  • Follow policies and protocols regarding testing, treatments, and emergencies.
  • Maintain and communicate needs to other staff and supervisor as needed.
  • Welcome patients in a professional, courteous manner and escort or assist them to the testing or treatment area.
  • Verify patient information, insurance information, collect patient paperwork and signatures as appropriate.
15. Maintain, clean, and stock all treatment and work areas.
16. Process payment and other billing paperwork appropriately.

ALLERGY TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Efficiently and professionally answer physician, patient, and family calls regarding testing and treatments.
  • Provide information and allergy education, share knowledge, and answer patient’s questions and concerns during testing and throughout therapy.
  • Follow policies and protocols regarding testing, treatments, and emergencies.
  • Maintain and communicate needs to other staff and supervisor as needed.
  • Welcome patients in a professional, courteous manner and escort or assist them to the testing or treatment area.
  • Perform skin testing (SET) as ordered for patients.
  • Perform RAST testing as ordered for patients who do not qualify for skin testing.
  • Administer routine allergy immunotherapy as ordered.
  • Calculate and mix allergy extract for immunotherapy per approved formula.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment and mixing boards.
  • Verify patient information, insurance information, collect patient paperwork and signatures as appropriate.
  • Accurately and efficiently document the patient testing and treatment in the patient’s chart and electronic medical record.
  • Maintain, clean, and stock all treatment and work areas.
  • Process payment and other billing paperwork appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year clerical experience in medical facility.
  • Knowledge and application of problem-solving techniques.
  • Exceptional skills regarding patient relations, quality, accuracy, productivity, critical thinking, and teamwork are required.
  • Computer skills with ability to utilize electronic medical records and other software is required.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Must have the ability to work with speed and accuracy.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate complex information simply.
  • Must promote teamwork by demonstrating wiliness to assist others.
  • Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
  • Neat, professional appearance.
  • Reliability and highly motivated.

  • Ability to work well with coworkers.
