The Central Processing Department Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments. The Central Processing Department Technician is responsible for helping to maintain the supplies inventory.

The Central Processing Department Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments. The Central Processing Department Technician is responsible for helping to maintain the supplies inventory.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans and decontaminates patient use items by taking apart instruments, rinsing and soaking instruments and using washing/sterilization equipment.
- Checks all sterilization equipment for proper maintenance and functioning.
- Assembles, packages and/or terminally sterilizes patient use items.
- Assists operating rooms as needed for turn-over between cases.
- Keeps required records such as diagnostic chemical and biological testing records. Reports any “positive” Biological Results to team leader.
- Wears proper PPE as required for potential exposure.
- Performs required environmental and/or equipment maintenance procedures.
- Removes soiled linen and trash as needed.
- Replace needle boxes and place filled needle boxes in soiled/trash room.
- Has knowledge of sterilizing devices at the Center.
- Clean and flash instruments between cases as needed.
- Maintain instruments by properly assembling, drying and processing according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Notifies Manager of instrument purchases or repairs to adequately maintain instruments to meet department demands.
- Stock supply carts in all O.R.’s as needed.
- Check thermometers in refrigerators and warmers and document appropriately.
- Stock linen carts and warmers.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- One year sterilization experience preferred
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred
- Must be able to adapt to repetitive, short cycle operations
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work
- Must have some mechanical ability to operate large equipment, to disassemble and assemble instruments, and have some familiarity with surgical instrumentation
- Must be able to work well with others
