The University of Minnesota Medical Center is a quaternary care academic institution with an adult and congenital cardiac surgical program that cares for about 1000 patients per year. A key strength is the heart failure program with a well-developed cardiac assist device and transplant program, and a very strong lung transplant program.
The Department of Anesthesia is committed to discovery, innovation and compassion in patient care, to research and to the education of future leaders in anesthesiology. Areas of focus within the Division are : Enhanced Recovery after Cardiac Surgery (ERACS), right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, bloodless cardiac surgery, and echocardiographic education (students, residents and fellows). All faculty within the division are fellowship trained with advanced certification in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. The Department has a Cardiac Anesthesiology fellowship (2 per year). It also works closely with the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine to oversee the post-operative management of cardiac surgery patients in the CTICU; several of our cardiac anesthesiologists are also intensivists. It enjoys a strong relationship with the cardiac surgeons, leading and collaborating in research, quality improvement, and participating in cardiac surgical M&M.
Background Requirements
- Completion of an accredited ACGME Anesthesiology residency.
- Board certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
- Board certified in Cardiac Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
- Training in Critical Care Medicine is desired but not required.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Advanced Certification in Echocardiography.
- A track record of original research and publications.
- Demonstrated accomplishments in team leadership and the mentorship of younger faculty.
- Demonstrated accomplishments in resident and fellow education.
- Eligible for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
- A clear vision for advancing the subspecialty, experience collaborating with ICU teams, cardiologists and other colleagues, and proven leadership skills in crafting the future of the division.
