Job Description
The Staff Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual care and support to patients, families, and staff throughout the hospital. This role involves developing relationships, providing counseling and guidance, and participating in hospital-wide activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with patients, families, and staff
- Provide spiritual care and support to patients, families, and staff
- Participate in hospital-wide committees and teams
- Share rotation of on-call responsibilities as needed
- Attend Pastoral Care staff meetings and retreats
- Support and perform decedent care program responsibilities, including grief counseling and assisting nursing and medical staff with paperwork
- Serve as a contact person or liaison between local clergy, patients, families, and staff
- Participate in policy development, strategic planning, and evaluation for the Pastoral Care Department
Qualifications
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
- Knowledge of pastoral care and counseling skills, especially as practiced within the hospital setting
- Eligibility requirements for Certification by National Association of Catholic chaplains or as a fellow by the College of Chaplains
- Two years of ministry experience, with at least one year in the hospital setting
