What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airports Maintenance Technician position at Okaloosa County?
Performs a broad range of structural, facility and grounds maintenance duties relevant to the construction, general repair and maintenance of County Airports property, structures and equipment.; provides county staff and the public with safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient places in which to work and conduct business.• Performs facility maintenance and repairs (i.e., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry) on structures, facilities and equipment.
• Operates various light equipment and vehicles such as mechanical tools, forklifts, tractors, and parking lot sweepers; performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles, i.e., cleaning, changing oil, lubricating, adjusting.
• Performs maintenance repairs and diagnostic inspections on baggage belt systems, jet bridges, ground power units and pre-conditioned air units.
• Cleans equipment and tools after use; reports equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs to immediate supervisor; maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas.
• Performs runway/taxiway maintenance such as striping, marking, and asphalt repairs; maintains airfield lighting and associated equipment.
• Reads and interprets facility drawings and blueprints; inspects assigned areas for safety and security.
• Monitors and interprets data from the fuel monitoring system for system maintenance and repairs.
• Repairs and maintains assigned grounds by carrying-out landscaping duties to include, planting, fertilizing, mowing, weeding, pest control and pruning; repairs and maintains irrigation systems.
• Troubleshoots facility HVAC’s computerized programming systems; performs minor maintenance on HVAC system such as performing daily checks, adjusting and/or changing pulley belts, adjusts flow valves and changing filters.
• Performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs, such as replacing light bulbs and ballasts, installing and repairing fixtures and/or other components, and clearing blockages.
• Conducts aircraft apron, runway and taxiway inspections in accordance with FAA and FDOT guidelines and regulations.
• Assists law enforcement in the event of building evacuation, to include blocking the roadways, entering and exiting the airport, under the direction of the responding agency’s personnel.
• Performs repairs on various small engines and electrical motors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred, supplemented by two (2) years’ work experience, preferably in facility maintenance, landscaping, construction or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May require specific experience that provides the ability to perform small engine and electrical motor repair depending on area of assignment within the department. Experience with HVAC systems, electrical, and plumbing is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a State of Florida Limited Lawn and Ornamental certificate within one (1) year of hire. Requires a valid driver license.Physical Requirements: Must be able to effectively operate trucks, light equipment, and a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools. Requires the ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds to constantly lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like. Requires the ability to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently and tolerate exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand(s). Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend items such as cleaning agent instructions, warning labels, equipment operation directions, order forms, and other materials related to the job.
