What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security & Hospitality Specialist (Part-Time) position at Okaloosa County?
Provides security, safety, and guest services for the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center.• Implements proactive safety, security and loss prevention measures (i.e., patrolling facility and property, monitoring surveillance systems, monitoring entry and key procedures, ensuring proper use/display of fire extinguishers/defibrillators, etc.).
• Maintains awareness of current safety issues and regulations facing convention centers; develops knowledge of the facility and locations of equipment, safety, and otherwise.
• Performs a daily check of the grounds for safety and cleanliness, removing litter and reporting any necessary repairs to the Event Operations Supervisor.
• Controls public entrance to facility; checks for and prevents unauthorized items, including outside food and beverages from coming into the facility.
• Navigates the surveillance system to investigate security and safety incidents; reports findings to the Event Operations Supervisor and Event Manager.
• Interacts with co-workers and the public to maintain order, respond to complaints, and assist with crowd control in a courteous and helpful manner.
• Responds to and assesses various emergency and sensitive situations in a calm, rational, and professional manner; de-escalates situations as needed, and calls appropriate first responders to the scene as necessary.
• Coordinates security planning; schedules and directs subcontracted security, EMS, fire, sheriff personnel as required; coordinates with the Fire Chief on events that are at or over maximum capacity.
• Programs and maintains all hand-held radios; maintains security equipment, including vehicles, with regular checks and requests for repairs and/or replacement.
• Coordinates logistics associated with events requiring overflow parking; sets up traffic control equipment such as barricades and parking signage for events.
• Creates and maintains databases and other records; prepares reports; monitors phones, provides direction to the public, and performs other administrative functions as required.
• Cross trains and assists with the set-up, support and tear down of events as business demands and security needs permit; recommends procedures to increase event safety.
• Performs related duties as required.Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of six (6) months’ experience in the Security Service industry, including loss prevention, crowd control, electronic security and administrative support functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with electronic surveillance equipment preferred. Hospitality experience preferred. Experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Class “D” Security Guard license within six months of hire. Requires a valid driver license.Physical Requirements: Must be able to exert in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, or 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs, ramps, and the like. Requires the ability to stand and/or walk for more than 50% of the time. Must be able to run occasionally. Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Must be able to reach, extend hand(s) in any direction. Requires the ability to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s). Requires the ability to bend, stoop and kneel. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, etc. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds.
