Engineer Technician, Senior : $33.01 PER HOUR / $68,660.80 YEARLY

JOB SUMMARY : Applies basic level engineering principles with direct supervision and assists engineers in feasibility studies. Performs field surveys for new and existing construction, produces CAD drawings for new / existing subdivisions, new / existing commercial and new / existing residential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Applies basic level engineering principles to deliver specifications, instructions, layout designs and draw sketches for gas facilities.; provide information and technical assistance to customers, architects, contractors, etc., concerning policies / procedures.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of gas standards / policies / procedures and construction practices.
  • Basic reviews of plans with direct supervision for gas mains and services for new / existing subdivisions, new / existing commercial and new / existing residential.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and estimate the cost of mains and services.
  • Design layout and cost estimate for gas mains, gas services, gas relocation, maintenance, and new expansion areas.
  • Ensures construction drawings meet or exceed the permit requirements.
  • Ensures proper permits have been submitted for each project.
  • Requisition materials for gas mains, gas services, gas relocation, maintenance, and new expansion areas.
  • Meet with government agencies and other utility companies on upcoming projects.
  • Basic reviews of upcoming state, county, city projects to resolve possible conflicts with the gas lines in these projects.
  • Inspect and draw as-built drawings for major expansion projects keeping track of all materials used on the project.
  • Ensure we have correct information and records for our field crews and for our mapping system.
  • Coordinate work of this area with other departments, customers or their agents on major relocation and gas main extension projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel to learn how to use engineering sheets to perform basic calculations, size meters, and excess flow valves.
  • Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned. Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.
  • Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High School plus five years of experience - or

Two years of college (Associates Degree) plus three years of experience.

  • Ability to accurately compile notes, sketches, and records of measurement data.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems; uses sound reasoning to arrive at conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment with individuals at all levels in the organization.
  • Knowledgeable and compliant with federal, state, local, and District procedures.
  • This position requires knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart N : Operator Qualifications (OQ).
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Understands and appropriately applies procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Experienced in the process and requirements for revocable permits, right-of-ways, street and alley vacations, easements, and other property issues.
  • Demonstrates skills in use of computer hardware and software applications for drafting : computer skills include but not limited to : Autodesk / AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, i.e., Excel and Word.
  • OTHER FACTORS :

  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • May be required to work other than normal work schedule.
  • May be required to work overtime with little notice.
  • Physical Effort : Could require heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions and Hazards : Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • DRUG TESTING FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS : Employees in this classification will be subject to undergo drug testing in accordance with DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Code of Federal Regulation, Title 40 (49 CFR), Part 199 and the Districts Drug Free Workplace Policy.
