SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: This position reports to the Chief Deputy and is
responsible for a wide variety of routine and technical work related to the
maintenance of property boundaries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs routine and complex cadastral mapping duties using a Computer-Aided
Drafting/Geographic Information System; performs cadastral tasks including the preparation
and maintenance of the official County parcel layer map related to property boundaries of
various kinds, and performs related work as assigned.
Duties include processing exempt segregations, consolidations, boundary line adjustments and
new plats to create adjusted or new parcels. Works with County Planning and Road
Department to ensure accuracy of property line changes. Also determines acreage and
ownership of vacated right-of-ways using recorded documents. Processes annexations,
ordinances and updates taxing district boundaries.
Process documentation to show new or altered property changes, read and interpret legal
descriptions, making sure they are accurate.
A. Uses Cad/Gis work station to prepare new maps and revise existing maps to show
accurate boundaries, configurations and areas of parcels.
B. Interprets legal descriptions, records of surveys, tract and parcel maps, and other
related documents.
C. Assists with research for property boundaries and title searches.
D. Operates a variety of office equipment including computer, scanner, printer, copier,
calculator, fax machine, drafting tools, etc.
E. Plot maps from legal descriptions, deeds, survey data, and tract descriptions and utilize
a data management computer system.
F. Make mathematical computations to calculate bearings, distances, areas and closures.
G. Enters data changes accurately into the Assessor software, Terrascan.
Assessor’s Office Support
1. Assist the public with a variety of questions including locating documents, parcel
numbers, ownerships, acreages, maps and other requested information.
2. Assist the public with a variety of questions relating to the Assessor’s Office, including
conducting historical research of property when time allows.
3. Disseminate and obtain information by phone, mail or in person; coordinate with other
departments and agencies including attorneys, title companies and the public. Assist
them by answering questions and at times, dealing with hostile customers.
4. Assist departmental staff in special assignments or daily routines.
5. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
6. Appear for scheduled work with regular, reliable and punctual attendance. Establish and
maintain cooperative, effective, and productive working relationships using tact,
patience and courtesy. Effectively plan and organize work and complete tasks within
prescribed timeframes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent
Five years’ experience with real property issues, which may include surveying, legal descriptions
and mapping.
Sound basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtractions, division, multiplication, fractions
and percentages.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
Experience using ESRI/ or other mapping software.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
A. Real property legal documents and descriptions pertaining to land ownership
B. Research methods to determine right of way and ownership history.
C. Modern office methods, procedures and equipment, including computer
terminals/personal computers.
D. Correct and affective use of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and math

F. Use and care of modern office equipment, including computer terminals/personal
computers, related peripheral equipment and software.

documents.

D. Perform precise and accurate mathematical functions requiring attention to detail.

G. Maintain composure and relate effectively to irate or emotional customers.

guidelines to varied situations.
I. Follow procedures and comprehend tax laws related to work performed.
J. Effectively coordinate, perform and complete multiple duties and assignments
concurrently and in timely manner.
K. Analyze and categorize data rapidly and accurately.
Physical Demands:
The working environment for this position is primarily in an office setting; however
individual shall be expected to attend meetings, conferences, seminars and other job
related activities. The duties are usually sedentary but may require standing, walking,
maintaining balance, climbing stairs/step stools and inclines, kneeling, bending, stooping,
crouching, reaching, pulling, twisting; requires sense of touch, finger dexterity. Ability to
grip with fingers and hands and ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or
a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise
move objects. Require ability to discern voice conversation, to see with close, far, side vision
and depth perception. Prolonged and regular hand and wrist movement related to
computer keyboarding.
