JOB SUMMARY:

The Security Officer reports directly to the Security Supervisor and is a critical part of the overall plan to ensure the safety and security of the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. This role will work the Evening shift from 3pm-11pm on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 11am-7pm on Sunday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Normally works an 8-hour shift. The shifts are normally scheduled from 7:00am – 3:00pm, 3:00pm – 11:00pm, and 11:00pm – 7:00am. Flexibility may be required to work other times as needed, and shifts may be adjusted to meet the needs of the Memorial and Museum.
  • Conducts continuous physical security evaluations and provides suggested remedies to the supervisor when flaws are identified.
  • Performs any and all needed duties directly related to the protection of the Memorial and Museum.
  • Responds to critical incidents at the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial, the Memorial Museum, Service Center, Garage and Heritage building.
  • Performs any and all other official duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor or the Director of Security.
  • Ensures coverage of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial, Museum, Service Center and parking garage are maintained.
  • During each shift coordinates with the other Security Officers to rotate through and fulfill security tasks.
  • Issues access credentials or keys to vendors / contractors.
  • Makes recommendations to the Security Supervisor regarding updates or revisions to the standard operating procedures, active threat protocols and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Conducts scheduled locking and unlocking of Museum and Memorial facilities.
  • Conducts scheduled locking and unlocking of the Heritage facilities.
  • Actively patrols the Memorial and Museum site (inside and out) to help ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations and site policies.
  • Patrols the Heritage building connected to the Museum.
  • Monitors the archives and museum areas for detrimental issues (heat, cold, water, etc.). Reports any issues to the supervisor.
  • Monitors and acts when needed regarding parking issues, crowds, protestors or any other incident occurring on the grounds or buildings owned / maintained by the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation.
  • Assists in planning and preparing for the annual OKC Memorial Marathon.
  • Answers incoming calls to the security desk located in security office.
  • Carries and answers the on-duty security mobile phone.
  • Directs emergency calls and provides information to local police and fire departments when needed.
  • Directs calls to other Security Officers when applicable.
  • Actively monitors the sites comprehensive surveillance and CCTV systems.
  • Monitors the fire and emergency systems while on-duty.
  • Monitors severe weather situations and advises staff of impending weather events.
  • Monitors the sites radio communication system.
  • Provides other assistance as needed to staff, and visitors.
  • Works to ensure all visitors have a positive experience while on the grounds outside or while in the museum.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Security Supervisor, Director of Security or the Executive Director.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Required to already possess and be able to maintain a current and valid Level IV armed security guard license with CLEET (Council on Law Enforcement and Education).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Basic first-aid, CPR/AED.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully preform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to adequately defend self and others in critical incidents, must be able to remain focused and act appropriately under stress, must be able to wear duty related gear (uniform, duty belt, weapon, radio, ballistic vest, handcuffs, baton and any other as specified by the DOSS), must be able to stand or sit for an extended period of time, must be able to be mobile for several hours, must be able to routinely perform moderate duty tasks which require the movement (push, pull, lift) of objects weighing at least 25 pounds. Must have vision or corrected vision which allows the successful annual qualification with a duty firearm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while preforming the essential functions of this job. Will work inside and outside when needed. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions to include hot, cold, wet and dry. Must wear a uniform, a firearm and any necessary accessories needed to perform job duties as directed by the DOSS. Must present a clean, professional appearance, along with maintaining acceptable standards of personal hygiene. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
