The Math Lab Tutor assists and tutors students in the Math Lab.
Reports To Math Lab Supervisor What position(s) reports to this position?
None
Minimum Education/Experience
Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.
OR
Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.
AND
Successful completion of the equivalent of Math 1483, Math 1513, Math 1533, Math 2013, or a subsequent course with a grade of B or better.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
OR
Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Successful completion of the equivalent of Math 1483, Math 1513, Math 1533, Math 2013, or a subsequent course with a grade of B or better.
Ability to interact with students on an individual or group basis.
Ability to explain information and mathematical concepts through oral and written communication and through the use of physical and technological demonstrations.
Must demonstrate effective communication and human relations skills while performing at work.
Firm grasp of the mathematical concepts that the tutor would be tutoring in the Math Lab.
A commitment to helping other students learn.
Understand the value of a peer leadership role.
Recognize primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners.
Must be able to independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
Basic computer skills.
Must follow directions and guidelines.
Must be punctual and reliable.
Satisfactory completion of tutor training program.

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently move about the Math Lab to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office/lab equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.
This position requires the person to occasionally position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to work with lab equipment or assist students.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, office or lab setting.

Required Training
Appropriate Tutor Training and Tutor Certification as offered by OCCC.
Work Hours
Work schedule will range from 20 – 25 hours per week and may include evenings and Saturdays depending on Math Lab operational requirements. Schedules are set each semester and will respect the student’s class schedule.
