Systems Engineer
Position Summary :
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and security of the district's systems infrastructure, ensuring reliable and secure operations across all schools and administrative sites. This role requires expertise in managing a diverse range of technologies, including Windows Servers, Active Directory (AD), DHCP, DNS, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra, and VMware. The Systems Engineer plays a critical role in both the day-to-day operations and long-term strategy of OKCPS's on-premises and cloud services to support the district's mission of being a first-choice district for over 33,000 students and staff.
Essential Duties :
- Deploy and maintain physical and virtual Windows & Linux server environments, with a focus on patch management, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Administer and support Active Directory (AD), Group Policy, DHCP, and DNS configurations.
- Administer and provide technical support for cloud services, including Google Workspace and Office 365.
- Administer and help support email for an enterprise environment, including Google Workspace and email filtering tools.
- Administer and help support web filtering solutions.
- Administer and help support anti-virus & endpoint security solutions.
- Manage and maintain virtual infrastructure using VMware, ensuring optimal performance and availability across multiple sites and data centers.
- Monitor and maintain storage solutions, including on-premise storage and cloud-based storage.
- Monitor and maintain enterprise-level server backup solutions.
- Monitor and maintain data center environmentals; ensuring UPS electrical systems and cooling are functioning optimally and properly maintained by appropriate vendors.
- Manage and configure Microsoft Entra services for identity and access management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system integrity, security, and scalability.
- Evaluate bids from vendors for completeness and established criteria to ensure an informed decision.
- Coordinate with external vendors for installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems and network infrastructure.
- Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and services, making recommendations to the Director of Network Services as needed.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve support tickets and issues related to system infrastructure, network services, email, and storage environments in a timely manner.
- Delivers clear and concise reports detailing the status of projects and network trouble tickets.
- Follows all District policies regarding change management for planned and unplanned modifications.
- Participates and organizes meetings with IT staff, vendors and education stakeholders to support the District's
- requirements.
- Provide technical oversight for projects and proposals.
- Maintains technical documentation ensuring that risk registers, security plans and inventories are kept up to date.
- Actively works to secure the systems through patches, monitoring software and following best practices for network security.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
