Position Title: Youth Program Assistant
Reports To: Manager of Teen and Youth Programs
Status: Seasonal, Part time, non-exempt
Compensation: $15/hour, $16/hour for Collective Care
Applications: February 1-28, 2025
Position Summary
Oklahoma Contemporary is looking for enthusiastic, attentive youth program assistants to lead, support,
and motivate campers as they enjoy our weeklong camps this upcoming summer break. Youth Program
Assistants will gain experience in classroom management, as well as lead and monitor campers while
supporting teaching artists in a studio environment. The ideal youth program assistant is upbeat,
responsible, organized and possesses strong leadership skills. Youth program assistants are
compensated for their time and work an average of 35 hours per week. Our Camp Contemporary
program provides exciting studio experience across artistic disciplines including painting, fiber arts,
drawing, ceramics and performance. Along with camp programming, youth program assistants will also
have the opportunity to assist with additional youth-related programming throughout the year
Qualifications
Essential Job Responsibilities
• Maintaining an organized art supply storage.
• Greeting parents and campers as needed.
• Aid instructors as needed.
• Lead and support campers as they participate in age-appropriate activities.
• Maintain health and well-being of children during camper breaks and lunches.
• Monitor campers to ensure they are following camp rules and prevent accidents.
• Clean, maintain and ensure proper use of facilities and equipment.
• Report and record details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to Manager of Teen
and Youth Programs.
• Ensure campers use proper gallery etiquette around artwork.
• Participate and attend training dates.
• Memorize emergency procedures and enforce camp rules.
• Maintain a high quality of visitor experience, hospitality and professionalism in all environments.
• Attentive when traveling between spaces as a group.
• Encourage campers in their discoveries and creation of artwork.
• Assist with additional youth and family programming.
• Other duties as requested.
Essential Job Requirements and Qualifications
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and poise; ability to think on one’s feet
and improvise and adapt to a range of situations in the moment to problem solve.
• Submit an availability form prior to hire.
• Previous experience working with the public (e.g. customer service, retail, teaching).
• Strong interest in education, contemporary arts and culture. Degrees in fine arts, design or
architecture, art history, art education, media arts, education or history is helpful, but not
essential.
• Comfortable managing large groups, especially in an informal educational setting.
• Ability to stay on task and complete all aspects of a group visit within specific start and end
times.
• Experience in mediating and facilitating conversations with a wide range of people including
those from diverse cultural backgrounds, age ranges, abilities and attitudes.
Additional Desired Qualifications and Experience
• Experience working in camps with children or with specific activities.
• Experience working with people with specific needs including physical and/or intellectual
disabilities and/or autism.
• First aid, CPR and additional training.
Hours and Compensation
• $15/hour, $16/hour for Collective Care (all youth program assistants will be required to work
Collective Care at some point during the summer).
• Youth Program Assistants may potentially work a minimum of 3 weeks or up to a maximum of 6
weeks throughout the 9 weeks of summer Camp Contemporary.
• Youth Program Assistants will be asked to complete an availability form prior to hire.
• Availability to attend Youth Program Assistant paid trainings.

• Physical requirements include: Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and heavy work
may include routine lifting of a maximum weight of 25 lbs.
