Job Summary

The Teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans that meet ELG guidelines and manage the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively work as a team with the other teachers, and resolve parental concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with everyday operations of the program, including setting up before students come and cleaning up after students leave.


  • Ensure that the physical, social and emotional needs of the children are met daily.


  • Work with students in a manner consistent with each child’s growth and development. Be aware of each child’s needs.


  • Assist in preparing and implementing classroom lesson plans, programs and schedules.


  • Work with a team of teachers. Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.


  • Create activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children through interest areas.


  • Develop, plan and prepare instructional aids and/or materials for classroom activities.


  • Assist and supervise children during all activities.


  • Ensure that appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of the classroom are appropriately maintained.


  • Assist children with mealtimes and cleanup.


  • Ensure that all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and are used and maintained properly.


  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through parent app, informal discussions and parent-teacher conferences.


  • Ensure that all center policies and licensing regulations as required by the state are followed.


  • Must be able to lift no less than 40 pounds to at least waist high on a consistent basis throughout the workday. Also, must be able to take frequent walks, kneel, bend, squat or crawl.


  • Attend all required meetings, professional development days, and meet all staff development requirements.


  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.


  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Genuine warmth and understanding of the needs of young children and their families.


  • A strong understanding of child development.


  • A positive attitude and self-image with a commitment to innovation and creativity.


  • High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.


  • At least 21 years old


  • HS Diploma or GED required.


  • Must pass the state-required criminal background check.


  • Safe Sleep Certification (can be done after being hired within 30 days of employment)


  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (within 30 days of employment)


  • Must receive the required amount of training hours each calendar year per state licensing requirements.


  • Certificate of Mastery or willing to work toward a Certificate of Mastery and/or an AA or BA in Early Childhood Education.
