This position plays a critical role in supporting the academic success and holistic development of first-year students by providing guidance, resources, and support services to facilitate their transition to university life. The ideal candidate will be passionate about student success, possess excellent communication skills, and have a strong commitment to fostering a culture of belonging and academic excellence. Key Responsibilities : -Academic Advising : Manage a caseload of approximately 160 advisees, providing comprehensive academic advising to first-year students, including course selection, degree planning, academic goal setting, and interpretation of university policies and procedures. -Student Support : Offer personalized support and guidance to students facing academic challenges, including academic probation, course withdrawal, and academic appeals. Connect students with appropriate campus resources, such as tutoring services, counseling, and financial aid. -Orientation and Enrollment : Participate in orientation and enrollment programs to provide academic advising, assist with course registration, and facilitate workshops on academic success strategies and university resources. -Teaching First Year Seminar : Teach two sections of First Year Seminar each year. This course aims to help first-year students develop essential academic skills, explore university resources, and engage in topics related to college success. -Retention Initiatives : Collaborate with campus partners on retention initiatives targeted at first-year students, such as academic workshops, peer mentoring programs, and early alert systems. -Data Management : Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions, academic progress, and advising appointments using university advising software systems. Utilize data to track student success metrics and identify areas for improvement. -Professional Development : Stay informed about current trends and best practices in academic advising and student success. Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences to enhance advising skills and knowledge. -Committee Participation : Serve on university committees related to student success, retention, and academic advising as needed.Academic Advisors at Oklahoma State University are hired based on an established career development plan, position title and salary will consummate with education and experience level within the posted range. Education & Experience Position Qualifications : Required Qualifications : Academic Advisor I – Bachelor’s degree, no experience required. Academic Advisor II – Bachelor’s degree and two-three years of experience in a comparable position. Academic Advisor III – Master’s degree and one-three years of experience in a comparable position. Sr Academic Advisor I – Master’s degree and three years of experience in a comparable position. Sr Academic Advisor II – Master’s degree and five years of experience in a comparable position. Administrative experience that could include budgetary authority or similar levels of responsibility with unit programs and / or student groups. Supervisory experience to include interviewing, training and development, etc of employees and / or student learners and / or coordination of special projects. Possess a positive attitude, good communication skills, and a desire to assist students in achieving success. Demonstrate creativity and initiative and be a proactive participant in a team environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Manage confidential information appropriately. Must be service-oriented and able to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students in a positive manner at all times. Preferred Qualifications : Master's degree. Five years of experience directly comparable to academic advising.
