Job Summary:
Position Summary:
Responsible for preparing appropriate paperwork for patient medical records, and accurate collection and updating of patient demographic and insurance information in the computer. Ensures verification of insurance via insurance websites or by calling the insurance company. Collects co-pays or receipts on the patient balance during the check in process. Assists with the referral/prior-authorization process. Professionally answers multi-line phone and handles calls accurately. Follows department standards while scheduling patient appointments. Excellent communication and customer service skills required during all encounters with OSU patients, as well as internal and external providers.
Environmental Hazards:
Possible exposure to hazardous material, hot and cold, blood borne pathogens.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 15 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Education & Experience
Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- Some college or technical school in related field or 6 months related job experience
Skills, Proficiencies, Knowledge:
Experience working with computers and software, performing accurate and efficient data entry, answering multi-line telephone, and scheduling appointments. Must have an understanding of medical terminology, work well under pressure in a fast paced clinical environment, and have the ability to learn new processes as required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Preferred:
Six (6) months experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.
