Postdoctoral Fellow – Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral fellow.
Position Description
Funding is available for a postdoctoral research position to work in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oklahoma State University (see

The applicant hired will work with the Chen laboratory (https://experts.okstate.edu/charles.chen) on bioinformatics, genomic variant identification, statistical modeling, and optimization for genomic applications. They will lead our computational effort to characterize the importance of genomic variants for predictive analysis and derive genomics-enabled solutions for forest management and tree breeding programs. They will contribute to experimental design, method development, implementation, and data analysis, as well as prepare manuscripts for publications. The postdoc will also be provided the mentorship and professional development opportunities tailored to their career goals.
Salary Information
Salary for this postdoctoral position is $64,000/year plus benefits, excluding retirement (https://hr.okstate.edu/prospective-ee.html).
Employment Conditions
This is an 11-month temporary 100% research, non-tenure track position. Appointments are to be made for a term of one year or less. Reappointments for a total period of not more than two years may be made. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled with a suitable applicant. Anticipated start date is January 15, 2024.

Qualifications

- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatic, Statistics, Quantitative Genetics, or related fields with a focus on Computational and Associative Genetics, Predictive Analytics, or Optimization.
- Strong background in genetics and genomics, and large-scale genomic data integration.
- Exceptional writing skills and the ability to work independently while guiding student researchers.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl for modeling and data analysis
- Familiarity with relational databases, data management, and computational tools for optimization and decision support.
- Excellent communication skill, team collaboration abilities, and a passion for translating genomic knowledge into practical solutions.
- Experience with genotyping technologies, SNP array design, and population genomics in plant or tree species is highly desirable, but not required.
