JOB OVERVIEW
The Detention Liaison serves as a vital link between inmates, facility staff, and external contacts. This role is responsible for facilitating clear, respectful, and professional communication within the facility and ensuring that inmate concerns, grievances, and requests are heard, documented, and routed appropriately. The Detention Liaison promotes understanding and cooperation among all parties while upholding the safety, security, and integrity of the detention facility.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
- Serve as the primary point of contact for inmate communication concerns and requests.
- Relay messages or clarify policies and procedures between inmates and staff, ensuring mutual understanding.
- Facilitate access to medical staff, religious services, or legal resources.
- Assist with coordinating inmate requests related to personal property, grievances, and visitations.
- Ensure accurate documentation and follow-up of all inmate inquiries and resolutions.
- Mediate low-level disputes or misunderstandings between inmates and staff to promote a respectful environment.
- Monitor trends in inmate concerns to help leadership address systemic issues or training needs.
- Educate inmates on facility policies, grievance procedures, and available resources.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality at all times.
- Attend training and remain knowledgeable about policies, inmate rights, and ethical boundaries.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Social Services, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience working in a jail setting, case management, or conflict resolution is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage sensitive conversations.
- Must be able to work independently and handle confidential information appropriately.
- Knowledge of inmate rights, facility protocols, and state and federal jail standards preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works inside a secure facility with regular inmate contact.
- May involve walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
- Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations and follow all security procedures.
Job Type: Full-time
