Okuma Fishing Tackle has an immediate opening for a Reel Repair Technician in Ontario, California. Okuma Fishing Tackle is an international manufacturer and distributor of a variety of fishing tackle products. Our Ontario, California warehouse is home to our North American distribution center.

We are looking to hire a Reel Repair Technician that is a motivated, self stater with a strong sense of pride in workmanship. Reel repair falls under the customer service department at Okuma Fishing Tackle, and we pride ourselves not only on quick turnaround times, but also quality of work. Repair technicians need to work with both the parts department and customer service representatives daily, so we are looking for a person with strong communication skills.

This position reports to the Customer Service Manager

Reel Repair Technician Responsibilities:

  • Work involves being familiar with all categories of Okuma reels
  • Main responsibilities will be repairing and servicing reels in the following categories: Lever Drag, Star Drag, Spinning, Baitcast and Fly Reels.
  • Technicians need to diagnose reels and determine if there is a known quality issue that should be covered under warranty.
  • Identify if product is misrepresented to CSR’s and has issues resulting from abuse or lack of care that might be kicked back as a responsibility of the customer for payment.
  • Customer service will make the final determination regarding payment or product replacement on issues mentioned above.
  • Quality of work is key, and it is the responsibility of each repair technician to QC their work prior to signing off and returning the product to the customer.
  • Repair technicians will also work with customer service on our rod tip replacement program for customers that have broken the top section of 2-pcs rods.
  • Identify and report trends in repairs and irregularities of product performance/quality.
  • Repair techs must learn and use Net Suite and Okuma’s Zoho communication services for internal repair status as well as external customer communications.
  • Understand parts department structure for both pulling parts for repair as well as pulling parts for customer parts orders.
  • Repair techs must be flexible as they may float back and forth between reel repair duties and parts picking for customer parts orders.
  • Tools are provided for repair techs to do their daily job. It is the responsibility of techs to take care of and maintain these tools and notify management if any additional parts are needed.
  • Join weekly customer service meeting to discuss problem customers, departmental issues and turn-around time.
  • In slow season, repair techs will help manage our reconditioned inventory and make sure that the product is brought up to factory standards so it can be used for replacements.
  • Repair techs will need to assist on occasion with walk in customers to explain the scope of a repair, diagnose a problem and inform customers of product/parts upgrades.
  • Okuma is a small company and there may be times that repair techs need to assist with parts and or the customer service to keep things flowing smoothly.

Reel Repair Technician Requirements

  • Communicates professionally with customers, management, and co-workers.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Proficient in CRM software
  • Advanced reel repair skills
  • Experience and understanding in Quality Control
  • Able to work with small mechanical parts
  • Works with the public in a professional manner
  • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full-time position and typical work hours, and days are Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4pm or 8:30am to 5pm.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience in reel repair and or similar type of service position
  • Experience working with and processing small parts orders
  • Experience in working CRM systems (ZOHO CRM)
  • Familiar with general office and warehouse operations practices
