Job Description
POSITION TITLE : Reading Specialist : Secondary
LOCATION : Olathe East High School
STATUS : Certified- Contract
HOURS OF WORK : 8 hours a day / 187- day calendar
Responsibilities :
- Strategically teach reading to students enrolled in the Reading 6-12 course
- Interpret assessment data to identify students' strengths and weaknesses to drive instruction
- Deliver MTSS Interventions
- Facilitate the MTSS process for the building through data analysis, grouping, preparing materials, providing information to building leadership and staff and meeting regularly with building coach
- Support reading and writing staff development at the building level
- Support Building Level Teams related to the improvement of reading and writing achievement
- Collaborate and confer with classroom teachers in a variety of ways (i.e., PLCs, model lessons, planning, standards discussion, analysis of student work)
- Serve as a resource for teachers with selection of materials, teaching techniques / strategies, and how to relate instruction to support student literacy needs
- Provide reading resources for classroom teachers, aides, and parents
- Communicate and partner with parents to improve student reading
- Collaborate with district staff on initiatives to improve reading and writing achievement
