What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Teacher at Central Elementary position at Olathe Public Schools?
POSITION TITLE: Title 1 Reading Teacher
LOCATION: District Wide
STATUS: Certified- Contract
HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours a day / 187- day calendar
Responsibilities:
· Strategically teach reading to students in the Title I/ Reading program
· Support reading and writing staff development at the building level
· Support Building Level Teams related to the improvement of reading and writing achievement
· Interpret assessment data to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses to drive instruction
· Prepare and deliver focused reading intervention instruction in a small group Title 1 Reading setting
· Collaborate and confer with classroom teachers in a variety of ways (i.e., PLCs, model lessons, planning, standards discussion, analysis of student work)
· Serve as a resource for teachers with selection of materials, teaching techniques/strategies, and how to relate instruction to support student needs
· Provide reading resources for classroom teachers, aides, and parents
· Communicate and partner with parents to improve student reading, including implementing
Title 1/At Risk Reading compacts
· Collaborate with district staff on initiatives to improve reading and writing achievement
· Assist with planning and teaching extended learning opportunities
Qualifications:
· Valid Kansas Teacher License/Certification
· Content knowledge and expertise in teaching elementary reading
· Ability to facilitate building reading professional staff training
· Ability to facilitate family reading training evenings and extended learning for students
· Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with colleagues/parents
· Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses
· Knowledge of curriculum development, and effective reading and writing interventions/strategies
Experience:
· Preference for minimum of 3 years of successful experience
· Preference for Master’s degree in Reading and/or Reading Specialist Endorsement
· Successful leadership and or experience in providing parent and staff training
