Visitor Experience Associate

The Old Colony History Museum (OCHM) seeks an enthusiastic and people-oriented Visitor Experience Associate to join our team. This position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum. The Visitor Experience Associate is responsible for all aspects of the visitors’ experience, from welcoming and encouraging visitors to engage in the OCHM’s exhibitions and programs to managing the museum’s Gift Shop, as well as online using our social media accounts. The successful candidate will enjoy helping others, working together as a team, and acting with attention to detail to ensure the best possible experience for our visitors.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster a warm and welcoming environment for Museum visitors, ensuring that they are informed about daily programming, upcoming events, and membership opportunities.
  • Use Museum Point of Sale (POS) software to sell admission tickets, memberships, program tickets, and process donations.
  • Manage cash drawer in accordance with museum policies and procedures.
  • Assist with daily office operations, including phone calls, responding to emails, processing incoming and outgoing mail, and providing administrative support.
  • Independently resolve guests’ questions and concerns and report issues, comments and feedback on a regular basis, escalating guest issues as needed.
  • Assist with hospitality setup for museum events and programs.
  • Operate the museum store (in-person and online), promoting the store, processing sales, restocking inventory, and maintaining compelling visual merchandising.
  • Plan, schedule, and post social media content prioritizing Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook to build and nurture our online community.
  • Compile and analyze customer behavior through reporting and analytics.
  • As this is a new and cross-functional role, additional responsibilities and duties may develop with the role.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in museum visitor experience, hospitality, or equivalent sales or customer service roles.
  • A professional, warm, and positive attitude, coupled with strong customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to communicate skillfully with the public and resolve complaints quickly and effectively.
  • Interest and/or knowledge of local history, with an eagerness to learn about OCHM’s exhibitions and programs.
  • Familiarity with Square POS, Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Canva, and WordPress. Knowledge of QGiv and Bloomerang is a plus.
  • Proficiency and comfort with social media platforms.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative team environment while also being a self-starter.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. for event and museum store setup is required.


COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

  • This is an In-Person, Hourly, Non-Exempt, At Will position compensated at $18 per hour
  • The schedule is Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Additional hours may be available, but overtime is not expected for this role.
