What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Old Colony Players?
Description: The ideal candidate will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and will manage show operations. They should have experience in show production, technical abilities with lighting and sound, set construction, backstage management, and work as a team and report to the Executive Director to accomplish the mission of OCP. This position would be onsite for needed rehearsals, set building, technical setups, and performances.
Compensation: $15,000 Annually – Paid on the 15th & last day of each month – Additional income incentives available
Work Schedule: Flexible Schedule based on rehearsals, shows, workdays. Average approximately 16 hours per week.
Job Duties:
1. Professional Development
a. Represents OCP in various community organizations and various events in the absence of the Executive Director
b. Oversees maintenance and all show preparations for the amphitheater
c. Maintains asset inventory
d. Seeks out opportunities for continued professional development and interaction with directors of similar organizations through meetings and workshops
2. Show Preparations
a. Coordinates with show directors, stage managers, and other positions to ensure successful and timely productions.
b. Review purchases for set building, props, costumes, and miscellaneous show materials and ensure they fall within the budget provided by Board of Directors and the Executive Director.
c. Reviews technical and stagehand needs - manages use of sound and lighting systems.
d. Disseminates checks to paid show positions. Such as director, stage manager etc.
e. Brings any issues with the production, director, crew, or cast to OCP Board President immediately.
f. Determines checks to be written and have ready day of show
g. Oversees backstage operations
h. Coordinates schedules for amphitheater volunteer workdays, winterizing, and repairs as necessary.
i. To ensure all necessary forms, disclaimers, and Community Standards Agreements are signed by cast members and production personnel at the start of a production.
j. Assists the Executive Director with production promotions via social media, banners, and other means of advertising.
3. Facility Maintenance
a. Facility preparations – opening and securing the facilities before and after rehearsals, shows, set building, tech week, and any other events offered by OCP.
b. Oversees after show clean up – trash removal, restrooms, vacuuming as necessary.
c. Coordinates set building and show preparations including overview of facility expectations and rules with show directors, stagehands and technical crew members.
d. Coordinates strike – returns props, set, cleaned costumes, flats and all show materials to appropriate storage areas and to be sure all facilities are returned to appropriate condition for next production or use.
