The Adult Learning Facilitator (Educator) is responsible for providing quality educational services to adults who are justice involved with a history of addiction at our Community Justice Support Center. Planning and implementing Adult Secondary Education (ASE) curriculum, scheduling and oversite of HiSet testing and maintaining accurate educational records for each client is expected.
Casework services to clients includes assisting with general wrap around supports.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Completing an educational assessment on all new clients and assist in appropriate placement.
- Develop and implement Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes and individual education goals.
- Provide individual and classroom instruction as needed.
- Administer TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) tests. Score tests and ensure records are maintained in educational files.
- Provide a safe learning environment utilizing motivational interviewing strategies.
- Work closely with colleges that administer HiSET exams.
- Ensure the timely registration of Center participants who are eligible to take HiSET exam.
- Provide academic support and tutoring.
- Assist clients with College Admissions, FAFSA applications as needed.
- Responsible for verification of clients high school diplomas, GED or HiSET.
- Facilitate Computer Skills/Keyboarding classes.
- Facilitate financial and life skills groups as needed.
- Ensure that all casework services are consistent with the operating policies of the Office of Community Corrections (OCC).
- Ensure that all forms, material, and assessments are filed and or logged accurately and timely.
- Complete client intake assessment and provide input to clinical staff for development of treatment plan for each assigned client.
- Make necessary referrals to outside agencies or departments as needed.
- Create an after care/discharge plan for select clients.
- Participate in weekly Clinical and Multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Keep client data and information updated in data base system
Qualifications for the Adult Educator/Case Manager include:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years experience in related field
- Valid MA Teaching Certificate preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong, enthusiastic commitment to helping clients develop the skills needed to successfully complete the HiSet
- A proven ability to work well in a diverse setting with high risk population.
There are 18 Office of Community Corrections Community Justice Support Centers across the state including 10 operated by the Old Colony YMCA. Clients attend CJSC to participate in programs designed to improve their lives and avoid further criminal justice involvement. Each CJSC offers about 15 different programs, including cognitive behavioral treatment for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and to improve decision making, employment counseling, and Adult Basic Education, GED/HiSET, and post-secondary preparation.
