Job Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all clients receive professional, safe care in a well-maintained and secure environment. The Shift Supervisor is responsible to ensure that YMCA, DCF and DEEC policies are applied. He/she is responsible to apply his/her own skills, experience and interests while interacting and counseling clients. He/she must maintain a positive role model for clients, enhance their self-worth and provide encouragement so that they may reach their full potential. He/she is responsible to contribute to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in his/her job and cooperation with co-workers and the Program Director. He/she will reflect and display the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Program/Department Responsibilities
The program requires 24 hour staffing. Staff may be mandated to stay until staffing ratios are in accordance with EEC guidelines.
Assist with staffing schedules and training of staff.
Schedule activities for residents within budgetary guidelines.
Schedule maintenance on the program vehicles as needed.
Responsible for administering medications during the shift in a timely and accurate manner. Become MAP Certified.
Ensure all security procedures, as outlined in the Operations Manual, are followed in full to provide a safe, secure and healthy environment for clients and staff.
Closely monitor staff and all clients in all phases of their daily activities and during their day & night routines and to make sure that all rules and regulations of the program are followed.
Plan, implement and supervise activities during free time for clients (games, discussions, etc.).
Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including all paperwork and careful storage and labeling of clients’ belongings and valuables.
Complete all paperwork and documentation as needed, including log entries, van mileage, incident reports, meal count sheets, clinical reports, security sheets, etc., prior to completion of shift.
Prevent crisis from escalating and assist during a situation by intervening and counseling clients in a calm, professional manner and utilizing your Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Skills, and only if necessary, physical restraints. Review and approve incident reports.
Attend and participate in all required program meetings and professional trainings.
Maintain required certifications and may be required to MAP certified within six months of start date dependent on DCF program.
Accept advocacy responsibilities (coach, mentor, and support) for assigned residents.
Report any suspected child abuse to the Supervisor on duty or DCF.
Supervise, prepare and assist in meal preparation and laundry chores.
Be punctual in attendance and follow the program’s policies and procedures.
Ensure proper staff coverage by receiving Director/designee approval to leave at the end of each shift.
Maintain YMCA, DCF, DEEC policies and procedures. Adhere to CARF standards.
Work as part of a team with co-workers and assist other OCY programs as directed.
Follow dress code policy.
Complete resident monthly reports competently and on time.
Accept Additional Responsibilities As Assigned.
Ensure emergency procedures (fire, safety and medical) are posted in the program and followed by all.
Complete supply inventories upon request.
Provide professional and courteous telephone service to all contacts when needed.
Supervision Of Personnel
Provide regular training and supervision to employees. Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all employees on duty are assigned and complete tasks prior to the end of shifts.
Fiscal Responsibilities
Adhere to all OCY fiscal procedures, such as: Purchase Orders, Petty Cash, Employee Expenses, etc.
Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities
Ensure that the OCY van is maintained and cleaned and report in writing any maintenance or cleanliness concerns to the Shift Administrator.
Complete program maintenance assignments, such as shoveling snow and/or seasonal yard work, placing the trash in the proper containers or at the curb for city pick up, and completing household chores (as we are an open program to our families and social workers, which requires daily preparation for “unannounced visits or inspections”).
Inspect all of the program equipment to ensure it is safe, secure, and clean and in an up-to-date condition, that it meets all regulatory standards. Report all repairs, in writing, to your supervisor.
Ensure a safe and secure environment.
Ensure that residents, by your example and working with our residents, follow through, on their chore assignment and that floors, walls, bathroom/shower areas, program equipment, etc., are kept clean, free of debris and odor free.
Ensure that staff bathroom and staff workspace is kept clean and neat and that program spaces are in good order prior to leaving shift.
Interdivisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibilities
Provide the Old Colony Y with support on a voluntary basis during any and all campaigns.

Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. High School education or the equivalent experience.
One year of related experience working with adolescents preferred.
Basic computer knowledge is required.
Must be able to read and write cohesively for incident reporting.
Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle.
Yearly completion of DEEC required and OCY training programs.
MAP certified preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to assist with the restraining of residents up to approximately 200 pounds; capable of consistently and effectively working with clients with severe emotional and behavioral needs. The position requires visual and auditory acuity in order to maintain program security.
Able to perform the job duties under facilities/housekeeping.
Additional Considerations
If on a medically modified workload, you may alternate sitting and standing.
There will be occasions that the use of your personal vehicle will be expected and required. You will be reimbursed for the mileage completed during an Old Colony Y assignment.
