Purpose of Job:
Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician to join the Marsh Run Generation Facility team in Remington, Virginia. The I&C Tech will be responsible for maintenance of all instrumentation and controls throughout the ODEC owned CT Generation facilities. Preparation of instrument and controls maintenance, procedures, outage planning and the management of onsite contractors while performing field related tasks. Recommend policies and procedures to ensure proper operation of the facility and equipment
Essential responsibilities include:
- Responsible for maintaining controls to allow equipment to operate at a high efficiency level.
- Ensure the plant emission’s monitoring system is operated and maintained in accordance with State and Federal specifications and regulations.
- Perform duties while following all safety, NERC, and environmental standards and regulations.
- Ensure the plant controls systems are maintained and documentation kept up to date.
- Timely report all safety and mechanical equipment issues throughout the facility to the Operations Manager.
- Assist Operations in maintaining all plant systems.
- Troubleshoot using the Distribution Control System (DCS) to resolve problems with equipment failures.
- Work with the operations team with maintenance as needed.
- Operate systems as a back-up operator as requested and needed.
- Maintain test equipment and train operations team in use of test equipment.
- Verify and maintain documentation on all calibration equipment.
- Effectively train operators on safe and proper use of test equipment.
- Ensure strict compliance with all budgets.
- Assists in outage planning for the desired field.
- Schedule I&C related work prior to plant outages.
- Coordinate with operations in scheduling work during outage for the purpose of LOTOs (Lock Out Tag Out).
- Coordinate purchasing parts and equipment and scheduling with contractors for specific jobs with the Operations Manager.
- Develops and ensures compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures plant compliance with state, federal and local environmental health and safety requirements.
- Assists in obtaining data to ensure quarterly DMR and EER reports are filed timely and accurately.
- Participates in plant EH&S audits and ensures remediation of discrepancies.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working with instrumentation and controls within the power industry required
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of power plant fundamentals, process and operations
- Effective written and oral communications skills to all levels of the organization
- In-depth understanding of the electric utility industry
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Travel details: Occasional overnight travel required in this position
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor frequently throughout the day to include working on a laptop and smartphone
- Interact effectively with others through verbal communication, video, email and text
- Work full days (8 hours) in a power plant facility to include an office environment with occasional evening and weekend work
- Frequently spend a number of hours outdoors exposed to all weather conditions at a generation facility
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stack ladders, potentially hundreds of feet high and walk on stack platforms
- Ability to distinguish colors
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
