What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Interventionist position at Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School?
The OSA Math Interventionist (MI) will assist teachers, administrators and other school personnel on the Student Support Team to:
1. Identify the foundational areas of weakness for assigned students
2. Determine research-based interventions that address the targeted weaknesses
3. Determine valid progress monitoring tools that will measure student growth resulting from the targeted intervention
4. Analyze data to make informed decisions regarding next steps in instruction
The Math Interventionist will provide thorough explanations and modeling as necessary for teachers and others on how to implement research- based Math interventions with fidelity. The MI observes implementation and provides coaching and support to teachers and others who are implementing the interventions when needed.
Responsibilities:
· Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to Math instruction using research-based progress-monitoring instruments as a base.
· Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
· Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change.
· Assist teachers and other administrators and/or supervisors in implementing the school Math program.
· Help teachers diagnose Math strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
· Work with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the Math program with the total curriculum.
· Promote interest in Math.
· Work with classroom teachers to model and support how to differentiate instruction in Tier 1, facilitate small group Tier 2 instruction and track student progress.
· Teach remedial Math as needed.
· Participate and collaborate with support staff in MTSS and have a strong understanding of Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III levels of support
Certification:
Valid Massachusetts K-8 Teaching certification; Sheltered English Immersion Certification
Teaching certification in the content area of math
Qualifications:
· A minimum of six years of classroom teaching experience with demonstrated exemplary results in student achievement in Math
· A strong understanding of Math pedagogy and intervention strategies
· Experience teaching various grade levels in math and/or STEM
